You Have To Be Kidding Me

The Democratic Governors Association sent out this postcard to Republican voters in Iowa in an attempt to influence the Republican primary race. Terry Branstad (R) is a former governor of Iowa who is running against current governor Chet Culver (D). Branstad won the primary.

The postcards were paid for by a 527 called Iowans for Responsible Government. This 527 was funded completely by the DGA. I totally agree with Balloon Juice‘s mistermix on this:

This brand-enhancing ad was paid for by the Democratic Governors’ Association, who gave $782K to a 527 group trying to get Iowa Governor Terry Branstad beaten by his primary challenger. Someone needs to tell the DGA that the definition of ratfucking is not “fucking yourself with the opponent’s dick”.

Also, too: The answer to the often-asked question of why the Democratic Party isn’t better at promoting its core values is that an influential part of the party establishment is ashamed of those values and the party leaders who promote them.

Guess who is the DGA’s Finance Chair?

  1. A sorted group to say the least. Even Democrats know it. I guess the years of therapy when they were depressed about Bush “stealing 2000” allowed them to be in touch with their inner self.

Did you mean “sordid”? I hope you realize your dreadful literacy skills do you no favors when it comes to weighing your intellectual credentials.

Not for nothing, this was a text book worthy BAD photoshop job, regardless the issue. Bah! Maybe that was intentional as part of the inanity?

I can’t look at this one more moment!

    Say it ain’t so, Jack!

Oh well… Delaware is the state where our Senate Democrats won’t even seriously campaign for Democratic Congressional candidates. So this should be no surprise.

  5. jason330 says:

HOLY SHIT!! Jack Markell YOU EFFING BASTARD!!!!!!(…if you signed off on this) JESUS H. CHRIST!!! WTF!?! ARE WE REALLY THIS CLUELESS???

    a few questions

When does a Finance Chief get to call the shots? I thought that they sign the checks and produce reports?

The links http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_upshot/20100715/el_yblog_upshot/mysterious-ads-attacking-gop-candidate-as-liberal-paid-for-by-democrats show that Branford won the GOP primary, and so this appears to be an ad against a GOP candidate for governor. Not that outrageous in that context.

  8. The postcards were sent before the primary, PSB. They only found the expense on the latest report. The Finance Chair should be signing off on expenses as well. I doubt Markell approved of this himself but his name is associated with the finance of the DGA which proved $700K to use the word liberal as an insult.

  9. Observer says:

Hey, it’s great that the DGA has shown it can define EPIC FAIL.

  10. Even better when they lose 8 to 10 Governorships.

  11. Geezer says:

Hey David, go read the dictionary. Start with “dumb ass.” Just look for your picture.

  12. anon says:

Jack’s not the finance chairman. He’s THE Chairman of the DGA.

  13. Iowa Democrat says:

Branstad was being challenged in the GOP primary by a far right nut, and far right nuts make up a large percent of GOP primary voters in Iowa. Branstad should have won the GOP primary by a landslide, but he just barely got 50% of the vote. It was a dumb postcard, but if it had worked it would have been considered brillant.
