The Logic of the Delaware GOP Purge

Filed in Delaware by on August 16, 2010

I don’t know how many of you have been following Delaware Tomorrow but there’s been a bout of nastiness there. The blogger who goes by the pseudonym “Wanda Maximoff” has left to form her own blog.

A few weeks back, Wanda asked me if he/she could come on the blog as a contributor. Knowing him/her from a past life, I agreed. Wanda then brought up the work he/she was doing on Christine O’Donnell. I reviewed it and said that it was fine to post so long as Wanda documented his/her claims. If he/she would do that, I’d stand behind it. And I’m confident that Wanda has met that burden, so I continue to support that effort 100%. Especially since no proof whatsoever has been offered to refute the documented claims in Wanda’s posts.

You can find all the posts about Christine O’Donnell at the new site called Delaware Republican Record. Wanda Maximoff has done some really excellent work exposing Christine O’Donnell and I hope she continues to do so.

Someone explain to me the logic of purging voices on the right by other voices on the right? I know the national GOP is turning from the big tent to the pup tent by why do they think it’s going to work in Delaware? Turning themselves into a small, irrelevant socially conservative party in the state gains them what exactly? Why is shutting down longtime Republicans Dave Burris and Michael Stafford because of perennial loser Christine O’Donnell a good idea in their minds?

Also, hahahahahahaha (link from Delaware Republican Record):

When Republican candidate Christine O’Donnell’s office was contacted for a comment on the proposals, her press aide, Yates Walker, hung up the phone.

Logic? “Faith based” conservatives really do live in an alternative, reason & logic free, reality. It is a warped reality we get to glimpse everyday through the comments of some unhinged Republican fucknuts who hang around here. They honestly do believe that they need to be MORE conservative to win elections in the same way they truly believe that the framers of the Constitution were evangelical Christians.

    Crazy.

  2. I think Chris Coons proposal was to ban Senators from lobbying, and their staff for 5 years.

Regarding O’Donnell – When Republican candidate Christine O’Donnell’s office was contacted for a comment on the proposals, her press aide, Yates Walker, hung up the phone. – how much more proof do you need that she’s not ready for prime time?

  3. Aoine says:

Let’s face it – the right cannot even get a “pup tent” started without Viagra

and thusly goes Ruch Limbaugh as a prime example!!

  4. jason330 says:

According to the NJ it was a lifetime ban. He should have proposed that for House members as well.

  5. I am the truth says:

The truth is Dave Burris and Michael Stafford are nobodies in the GOP, absolute nobodies. Same with Rsmitty.

The demented Dems are for lots of jobless people, lots of debt, lots of killed in war and lots of government control. The GOP looks conservative to you fakes because you are so far left and crazy.

You libs are in for the biggest ass kicking in history this fall and it will be great to see that Botox Bozo Pelosi and Empty suit Obama give their excuses for being failures.

  6. So, the hard right in the GOP believes that a majority of Americans are secretly hard right as well and when the new & improved GOP is revealed people will realize this?

  7. Geezer says:

“The truth is Dave Burris and Michael Stafford are nobodies in the GOP, absolute nobodies.”

How it must anger and frustrate you, then, to realize that you are even less important than they.

  8. anon says:

I’m sure the Castle campaign was also none too pleased about DT providing a platform for that kind of vitriol. Castle needs to avoid at all costs creating a narrative about a “nasty campaign.”

Plus, DT was giving Christine’s people a platform to promote her to teabaggers.

  9. anon says:

Democrats might well take a hit this fall, but it’ll be their own damn fault, and not because Republicans have any ideas that work.

  10. cassandra m says:

Democrats will take a hit this fall — largely because it is usual for the party in power to take a hit in midterms. How much of a hit, however, is in Dems hands and they don’t seem to be doing much to capitalize on the complete lack of any ideas or substance from the GOP.

  11. a. price says:

NO ONE seems to notice the GOP has no ideas. Not the Dems, not the news, not the throngs of paranoid teabag koolaid drinkers who will end up voting for them…… It is long overdue for the Left to get a karl rove figure.

    also… a1, delcrat… this is for you…
Obama’s flipyflopy on the South Manhattan Islamic outreach and Community Center… strike 2.

  12. anon says:

It is long overdue for the Left to get a karl rove figure.

    Pear-shaped?

  13. anon says:

NO ONE seems to notice the GOP has no ideas.

Unfortunately they have lots of ideas. Bad ones. Bad, yet inexplicably attractive to voters.

Right now, all voters hear is “cut taxes, cut spending.” Voters will learn too late the tax cuts are for the rich only, and they plan to cut Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid to pay for it.

  14. a. price says:

what makes you think the droves of idiots who go to the pols after being told who to vote for by the TV-box will ever learn? we have had 3 or 4 waves of this right wing philosophical bullshit…. every time it has made the country worse, every time the left has tried to fix it, but been totally thwarted by GOP assholes abusing and exploiting the constitution… and every time the american sheeple forget the previous 4 YEARS and re-elect the GOP douchbags… only to give more money to the rich, less money to the growing number of poor and give up a few basic civil rights in the process. I have no sympathy for the idiots who buy in to the snake oil salesmen, then end up with nothing while Murdoch’s retirement doubles. They (people in dire straits who vote for GOP) deserve what they get.

  15. Geezer says:

IMHO, the reason we’re getting the attacks on immigrants and Muslims is the lack of GOP faith in their professed ideas — or, considering the primitive level of discourse from the crackpot wing, no understanding of those ideas.

  16. The Democrats are suffering because the economy is bad and people are hearing (and feeling) that Congress isn’t doing anything to help them. Most of this from GOP obstruction but Democrats are the ones who have abided by these ridiculous Senate rules so are also responsible for these problems. Process stories aren’t interesting to most of the public so filibuster & secret holds aren’t big issues (as they should be). So really, there’s no penalty at all for the GOP to block everything and make Democrats look ineffective.

  17. MJ says:

IATT – please give RD back his crack pipe. It’s really effed up you mind.

  18. anon says:

Democrats gutted their own proposals before Republicans ever got a chance to block them.

More than one third of ARRA was tax cuts, which are probably the least effective way to create jobs, compared with direct job creation, of which there was none.

Andpublic option health care that took effect in 2011 would have electrified voters.

  19. Not asking for a bigger & more effective stimulus was Obama’s biggest mistake I think.

Not so sure a public option would “electrify” voters. Polls have shown that voters mostly don’t understand the health care bill. A lot of them believe we do have a public option.

  20. Geezer says:

Back to the O’Donnell issue: I notice that DelTom has closed its comments on the O’Donnell threads. Since I can’t post it there, I’d like to point out that this is probably the wrong move. Every vicious thing posted by people such as “I am the truth” reveals exactly what these people are like — consumed by hatred, convinced of their own righteousness and unwilling to engage in reasoned discussion. The more this is revealed, the weaker they will become.

  21. I believe you can comment at the Delaware Republican Record.

  22. Geezer says:

I think so. But since this thread was actually about Delaware Tomorrow, I just thought I’d throw that in before we return to our regularly scheduled self-flagellation.

  23. anon says:

    Well excuse me.

    Everything’s fine; never mind.

  24. Geezer says:

That’s not what I meant. I don’t disagree with what you’re saying. I just wanted to point out that Delaware Tomorrow should give full throat to these crazies, so that everyone can see how crazy they are. That was, after all, the original topic.

There’s nothing wrong with self-flagellation per se. I do object when those practicing it chide me for not doing so, but if it makes you happy, go for it.

  25. anon says:

Delaware Tomorrow should give full throat to these crazies, so that everyone can see how crazy they are.

That is exactly what Castle does not want. If they are given a platform, the crazies will pull in lots of disaffected Republicans. Not enough to win, but enough to make Castle uncomfortable.

Plus, if it continues it is only a matter of time before the media picks up the “nasty campaign” story. And at this point there are nasty quotes on both sides.

If I were Castle, I’d want DT shut down for a while too.

  26. Aoine says:

I’d like to teach the world to sing

    in perfect harmony……

and world peas ( pun intended) etc etc etc – smartest thing Rodney King ever said – “Can’t we just all get along?”

but I suppose when the loonies are running the aslyum – and the intelligencia are faced with apathy – hey – the old adage of let them eat cake would work – eventually the icing and the sugar rush will stop – and when they wake up – OH LORDY LORDY!!

but if the proletariat wants to vote for the party of – Got Zero Plans (GOP) and get stiffed then stuffed (without the astroglide) – hey – who am I to quibble – I got mine – don’t need more

but if one more smurf comes to me and whines about HOW they are paying taxes and cannot afford to live and and and….AND the either didn’t vote or voted FEAR and HATRED (read Faux news and the GOP) I am gonna purge….

right there – on top of them…….

The GOP eating their young is the most comedy I have had all summer

I mean look what the GOP has given us:

    1. Shirley Sherrod and Andrew Brietbart
    2. repeal of the 14th ammendment
    3. apologies to BP – for destroying the ecosystem of the Gulf
    4. 2nd ammendment remedies
    5. Prop 8 overturn will destroy marrriage – (well if the institution is that weak, it should)
    6. obstructionism for healthcare reform, financial reform, and auto bailouts and the stimulus package
    7. Orly Taitz and Sharron Angle and Tom Tancredo
    8. “Papers Please” legislation

and absolutely NONE of that – has done one postive thing – all it has created is a massive tear in the fabric of this nation – fear and hatred have filled in the gaps where bi-partisianship once held a tentative civility….and why?

because OMG – we DARED to put a BLACK MAN in the White House!! because he was the best candidate for the job and represented the will of the people against 8 years of BUSH and Cheney.

Beacause we DARED to HOPE this nation could do better – give it up GOP – your Reagan big tent has shrunk, no longer do you have:

    1. African-americans
    2. Hispanics
    3. Gays
    4. immigrants
    5. the working poor
    6. the unemployed

you have become the party of the old, white, southern, rich dudes – who hide behind the skirts of a northern whackjob – I fully expect to see Sarah Palin chewing tobacky and spitting into a spittoon at the next function – just so she can show you that her “cojones” are bigger and not as wrinkled as yours are – and Anne Coulter – come on – have you seen that Adam’s apple?? – she is really in drag you know.. Michelle Malkin and Bachmann?? really?? these are your archtypes

    beam me up Scotty –

  30. MJ says:

  31. a. price says:
