We already know that Mike Castle thinks deficits are bad when Democrats are president and loves spending money unless it directly benefits Delawareans. Mike Castle is now mad and blames Obama for Mike Castle’s own vote to raise taxes.
Today, candidate for Senate Mike Castle issued the following statement in response to Chris Coons’ endorsement of President Obama’s economic plan that includes massive tax hikes and a second Stimulus Bill:
“Now is the worst time to consider raising taxes on any American. With our country facing near double digit unemployment and an economy struggling through the worst downturn in decades, increasing taxes at any level will kill jobs and slow down our recovery. Now is the time when families and investors need stability, not more debt or higher taxes.
“It is typical that Chris Coons would immediately rubber stamp the president’s call for higher taxes and a second ‘stimulus’ package, as he repeatedly raised taxes on the residents of New County Castle, refused to rule out voting for higher taxes if elected to the Senate and supported the first stimulus package that has failed to fulfill its promise of keeping unemployment below 8% or create long-term job growth.
“Delawareans know that I am the only candidate in this race who has a proven record of opposing government spending and higher taxes, and this is a fight I will continue in the U.S. Senate.”
Does Mike Castle realize that Mike Castle voted for these tax increases? The Bush tax cuts enacted in 2001 had a sunset provision in 2011. Mike Castle voted “yes.”
As far as government spending goes – could Mike Castle please show me where he voted against spending when Bush was president? With smart politicking like this I can see why Castle is proud of his important Bill Lee endorsement.
