Yesterday, Christine O’Donnell garnered 30,561 votes compared to Mike Castle’s 27,021. Let’s put that in perspective. In the 2008 Primary, both . . . BOTH . . . Democrats Markell and Carney picked up more than 30,000 votes: 37,849 to 36,112. Coons, in his run against Gordon, received 31,405 votes. Here’s one that will make you spit out your morning coffee, Karen Hartly-Nagle in her run for Congress took in 35,995 votes.
There’s a lot of hard work ahead for Chris Coons, Democrats and moderate Republicans. But 30,000 is not all it’s cracked up to be.
Odonnellis near her vote ceiling. Her smear campaign against Coons will pick up a few more votes, but for the Dems it will come down to three things; GOTV, GOTV and GOTV.
There is already a “Republicans for Chris Coons” Facebook page–expect many R’s to vote for Chris over NO’Donnell….
This map pretty much says it all. O’Donnell won huge in Kent and Sussex and southern New Castle counties. Castle won in northern NCCo. Castle and Ross fundamentally misjudged her strength downstate.

I wonder how many of those downstate 30,000 would have been registered as Democrats 15 or 20 years ago.
