Monday’s Asshat of the Day

Filed in Delaware by on September 27, 2010

I’m in a quandary. I’m not sure if I should award this politician an Asshat award or a Chutzpah award. Last Saturday night, the Hola Awards were given out to people who work to strengthen the Hispanic community.

It was a sold-out affair at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center. A few politicians were in attendance, including House Majority Leader Pete Schwartzkopf. But everyone’s eyes got wide when Rep. Ruth Briggs King and St. Bodie Girl’s sock-puppet, Chris Weeks, who is challenging Schwartzkopf, also showed up. The reason – King’s and Weeks’ stance on illegal immigrants. They support Urkels “tag ’em and ship ’em” policy, whereby undocumented workers will be rounded up, micro-chipped, and then deported. And if they have minor children who are American citizens – ship them out along with the parents. So the attendees were wondering what these two were doing at a dinner to honor members of the Hispanic community. But what made matters worse, in the eyes of attendees, was that King and Weeks ate their meals and then left before the awards program started. They didn’t even have the courtesy to stay to see who the nominees were and who won. Bad move!

But Weeks went further today when he was a guest on Curly’s show on WGOP. A woman who lives in the Angola area, called in to complain that Pete hadn’t done anything to help her and her neighbors get their roads repaired and paved, although they had begged him for years. She went as far as saying that Pete wouldn’t even drive down her road or return her calls. Weeks chimed in that he knew the woman and did some calling around for her and would get the money to help with the road repairs. But what the caller didn’t say was telling – the roads in question are private roads, not state roads. So Weeks, who’s campaigning that government is too big and taxes are too high, wants to take our tax money and put it to use to pave private roads. Unbelievable! And the truth of the story – Pete has helped this woman and her neighbors. He got the state road paved as much as possible and told them that they had to deed over the private roads to the state in order for the state to take responsibility for paving and upkeep. He told them that the state cannot pave and maintain private roads.

Then he went on to, once again, deny that he knew who was behind the anonymous website attacking Schwartzkopf (here’s a hint – the last name of one of the big money people responsible is the same as a river in New York and the organization has the same initials as a golfing group). But Weeks has told many people, privately, that he does know who is behind the website.

Asshat or chutzpah, take your pick, but either award goes to Chris Weeks.

That private road thing is a perfect microcosm of teabaggery.

    assaht and chutzpah together….

but not a set of “cajones” in the lot!!

wonder if their tickets were paid for out of campaign funds OR they were invited guests??

either way….rude to the extreme….get a meal, then bail

wonder what that brand of hypocracy you call that??? WOW, WOW WOW

what did they do?? shake hands with Latino members of the community then go to the bathroom and wash them off??

  3. Republican David says:

Do you make this stuff up in your dreams or do you work at it?

They support Urkels “tag ‘em and ship ‘em” policy, whereby undocumented workers will be rounded up, micro-chipped, and then deported.

  4. Aoine says:

David – there you go again with the late on the homework issue….

Urkel supports Rep Steven King’s view on micro-chipping immigrants – Ruthie and Chris support Urkie’s views…

what rock you been under??? – OH yeah the DP rock – where you ban dissenters and all agree to be “civil” unless you decide not to then it’s a “joke” or its ok to do so

go masturbate for Delaware and Christine – will ya??

  5. Mongo says:

Mongo wishes he had been there. He would have shown them what it feels like to be roughly deported.

  6. Aoine says:

    LOL Mongo – LOL

Willing to bet it was in Angola Neck Park. Worst. Roads. Ever.

The pizza place I manage has to cut off delivery to them if it rains heavy, because the mud puddles are so wide and deep and the roads so sandy that unless you have a 4×4 truck, you’re getting stuck. We were delivering during the snow State of Emergency, open for Superbowl… and we won’t go in there if it rains. It’s THAT bad.

Back on topic: Gotta love hypocrites.

    Government is BAD!*

*Unless it can help me in any way)

Good old politician was just happy to try to buy her vote with a road paving promise. *eye roll* I have had many conversations with “Libertarians” who say government should “get out of our lives.” and then in the same breath demand that “someone should do something about etc..”

    People just don’t think.

Speaking of hypocrites… isn’t that the station that is anti-immigration but has Spanish speaking programming every Sunday? How does that work? Advertising money clearly speaks louder than principle.

I’ve always maintained that Gaffney & Company is only one paycheck away from being a Liberal. If the conservative demographic in Sussex suddenly shifted to the left tomorrow morning, WGMD staff would have *Yes, We Can* tramp stamps tattooed on their asses before sunset.

  9. MJ says:

Love it, Mis, although it would take a lot of ink to tattoo Curly’s fat ass.

Another thing about the “interview” yesterday – one of Curly’s regulars called in and said she thought Pete’s campaign slogan (Vote, for Pete’s Sake) on his signs was self-serving. Weeks then chimed in “You’re not the first person to tell me that,” and then went on about how that wasn’t an issue, but he would represent the entire district and “not just himself and the Governor. That’s why we chose ‘Friends for Weeks’ for our website – to show we’re about everyone.” BS! Weeks wouldn’t be in this race (“I’m afraid for my children’s future, that’s why I’m running”) if it weren’t for St. Bodie Girl and his plans to take over Sussex County politics. Weeks continues to deny any connection, so I guess it was just coincidence that St. Bodie Girl was at the Rotary Club breakfast where Weeks told people he was going to run.
