The Facts Don’t Matter
The introduction to this NPR story caught my eye:
Christine O’Donnell, the GOP nominee for a Delaware Senate seat, is being lampooned in the national media for comments she’s made in the past about dabbling in things like witchcraft. But the national debate has little influence on her supporters in Delaware, who’ll vote for her in spite of the unflattering media portrayals.
Yes, doesn’t this seem to be the case? When you interact with one of O’Donnell’s base talking about her debt problems, her history of odd statements, her numerous instances of lying and her lack of campaigning makes absolutely no difference. In fact, it makes them defensive.
I think all candidates for high office develop a bit of a cult of personality around themselves. There are always rabid partisans and supporters (think of the woman on Rachel Maddow who said she’d vote for a dismembered Chris Coons over Christine O’Donnell). Is Christine O’Donnell’s core support group different than that of other politicians? I know we hear this comparison too much but O’Donnell’s rabid supporters remind me a lot of Sarah Palin’s – fiercely loyal, almost protective and absolutely nutty. Would any other politician’s supporters make a video like this?

That had the maturity of an 8th Grade Class President race.
“I… I… I cried, I wept like some grandmother. I wanted to tear my teeth out; I didn’t know what I wanted to do! And I want to remember it. I never want to forget it… I never want to forget. And then I realized… like I was shot… like I was shot with a diamond… a diamond bullet right through my forehead. And I thought, my God… the genius of that! The genius! The will to do that! Perfect, genuine, complete, crystalline, pure. And then I realized they were stronger than we, because they could stand that these were not monsters, these were men…”
“The horror… the horror…”- Colonel Kurtz commenting from beyond on this video.
Half of the pictures are ‘screenshots’ of graphics used on ‘The Colbert Report’ (Eagle in front of flag); The ‘We the People’ shot is from Glenn Beck’s show.
COD is nothing more than a seeker of FAME (and if she can make a little money, that’s fine too). I’ve been blogging for a while now about how Palin, DeMint and other social conservatives will ultimately ‘regret’ backing (perhaps they won’t – depravity goes a long way). Palin announced on Sean Hannity’s show last night how ‘I’m honored’ and ‘Excited’ about openly campaigning for COD in the coming weeks.
Palin did not hold a lot of credibility with me in the first place; now she’s confirmed my beliefs by her continued water-carrying for such an unqualified candidate such as COD.
Palin’s husband Todd, in his derogatory e-mail to GOP Senate candidate Joe Miller (R-AK), revealed what the ‘Vanity Fair’ profile article suggested about the Palin team – that ‘[W]e rule Alaska’ and anyone who ‘crosses’ us will regret it.’ Talk about the arrogance of power and celebrity!
Palin has even suggested to COD to ‘Speak through Fox News,’ referring to how COD should handle national media. Palin will nEVER go on ‘another’ network for an interview (it’s in her ‘exclusivity’ contract with Fox). However, it’s also a calculated way to avoid real, hardball-type questions from a diverse media. Remember, all of Palin’s commentary on Fox is done ‘after’ she receives the questions. In other words, she gets the scrift beforehand! Talk about lame. She calls the main-stream media the ‘lame-stream media’ because she couldn’t handle softball-interviewer Katie Curic.
The fact is: she cannot debate or answer questions extemporaneously. Heck, COD does better than she does!
no catchy song for coons?
not one person can put together a home grown BLUE video
lots of flags veterans
kids getting medical care
education shots
jobs shots _ hiring or small biz loans
gops crunchy faces saying no
christine dabbling on a satanic (not harmless white witchcraft) alter
was that AGE 30 or HS?
make fun – but these things work on some.
Horror is the perfect word. Apocalypse NOW.
I can’t understand why they accept anything she says.
I heard another Odonnell “lower taxes” clip on Wdel’s drive time news. They are struggleing to make it appea that Christine is a real candidate. Stupid liberal media!
12 of 25 groups supporting Coons have ties to terrorism. FWIW That is th current wingnut talking point for the past couple of days. So I guess the final push for Christine will be linking Coons to Bin Laden instead of Marx.
love the way O’Donnell sent a schill last night to the AM VETS post 28 to “speak” for her – then sit there and take notes on what got hand claps from snippets other candidates said………
the more the audience clapped the harder she wrote…..
no doubt those notes will go back to O’Donnell’s camp and they will make “talking points” out of them
so much for connecting with the “people of Delaware”
There is an O’D virus on my street in Brandywine Hundred. 4 houses with multiple O’D signs. No Coons. Since when did 202 turn into bizarro-land?
Joan Vennochi in the Boston Globe has an interesting take, which seems to boil down to “voters can be unpredictable; don’t take her lightly.”
I think that, more than anything else, her column betrays her ignorance of Delaware, but it’s an interesting take.
