Tickets Go Quick at UD

Filed in Delaware by on October 11, 2010

I went to stand in line to get tickets to the Coons – O’Donnell debate at UD this morning.  When I arrived at 9:30 (tickets “sales” started at 10) there was already a line of 40 or 50 people.  Some had folding chairs and had been there for hours.

In line, some people felt free to discuss politics and did so in a reasonable fashion.  However, there were some odd statements made me fear for the republic…  But that is standard fare for this year.

In the end, there were only 80 tickets available for non-students in New Castle County.  Since people could get 2 tickets each, the tickets didn’t make it to me.  I guess I’ll be watching from the comfort of my own home.

I was in line behind liberalgeek (and right in front of a COD nut).

The Bob holds 5,000, Michell Hall holds 649.

Why the heck is this forum at Mitchell?

80 tickets for the public? Seriously? How much does the state pay annually to the University, to get 80 freakin’ tickets for the community?

I can’t say for sure, but the Bob may just be a bad place for a debate due to acoustics. Also, I suspect that given the fact that the audience is supposed to be quiet during the debate, that gets more difficult (exponentially) with more people in the audience.

Also, I know that there were more than 80 tickets. Some were made available for students at the student center and also for the general public at some downstate location or two.

I think the actual debate is at Mitchell Hall, which is a proper auditorium.

    Updated: already noted. Never mind.

  4. Woops. I almost forgot to go pick up mine (reserved due to being in a class). Guess I better go do that right now.

Why would you pay to see anything as painful as a C O’D debate?

  6. PSB says:

    tickets were free, but required.
the tickets for students were not available for the general public.
yes, there were some tickets available for kent/sussex folks, of course no details as to quantity.

  7. Yeah, I’ll have to watch from home, too. Free Radical went to pick up tickets with his UD credentials but they were gone by the time he got there (11:30 or so).

Oooo boy, jammies, pop-corn to throw at COD on the screen, a little libation, sounds like a great night to stay home and tune-in.

  9. Since none of us can attend in person, I suggest we think up a drinking game.
