GO DSCC! Women need to understand that if the Republicans win we are in grave danger of losing the rights we’ve fought so hard to gain.

If you watch Mad Men you will see what the workplace was like for women 40+ years ago when I was starting my career. I have no nostalgia for those times. Abortions were illegal and dangerous. Birth control was illegal in many states. Women were decorative, fair-game, and kept in low-paying jobs while they carried a lot of the load for their bosses. It wasn’t pretty or fair. It was all institutionalized and the women didn’t even question most of it.

I’m a Democrat because, as a woman, there is absolutely no alternative. I don’t want to go back to the bad old days and that’s what Republicans stand for.

  3. Joe Cass says:

Appreciate the history Auntie but I’m still pissed Lilly Ledbetter never received her due from Goodyear.

  4. Aoine says:

what this is, is an attempt to create the American Taliban

    plain and simple

Delaware 9/12 patriots – American Taliban

  5. Liberal Elite says:

@Aoine “what this is, is an attempt to create the American Taliban”

Yep… And the attempt to make such laws local smacks of Sharia Law.

That’s what we’ve got… American Taliban pushing Sharia type enforcement.

  6. Auntie Dem says:

    Me too Joe!

  7. Frieda Berryhill says:

“American Taliban pushing Sharia type enforcement”
    Indeed
“Onward Christian Soldiers. marching as to war, with the cross of Jesus going on before….”?
The Gods must be laughing or crying ……

Auntie Dem; what a great reference to use. Younger women who watch Mad Men may think the fashions are cool, and it’s great camp…but other than the alcohol infused lunches and being able to smoke at your desk…it’s an era for women we don’t want to return to. I can attest to this first hand. If Republican/teabag fanatics bring their theories into action, women can absolutely expect backlash.

I started my career in advertising, and even though I had education, I had to start in a clerical position and work harder and longer than male coworkers to reach a position of any stature. I don’t want all that work, and all that mentoring of younger females, to become a wasted effort. I remember those days, and those days of back alley abortions, pregnancies hidden while friends visited “relatives” for a convenient nine months. I’m horrified at the idea women could lose the rights to their own bodies. Horrified.

A good read to get a feel for that time and the struggle it took to rise against it is “The Women’s Room” by Marilyn French.

Another good book was written by Lois Herr who is running for US House against The Pitts up in PA. She lead the women of AT&T in their struggle for equal rights back in the day. Huge battle since AT&T employed a bazillion telephone operators, women, and they were all underpaid. Lois earned her chops.
