Election Night Open Thread
DD has specific threads below. Use this one for everything else.
For instance, Rachel Maddow keeps exposing Chris Matthews’ foolish, tired punditry. Tweety is not happy with Ms. Maddow. Personally, Matthews reminds me of that crazy, old uncle that talks too loudly at Thanksgiving dinner, saying a whole lotta nothing. He should seriously consider retirement.
Have at it!

I really think we are in for some cliff hangers.
Why do polls close so early in Kentucky and Indiana? Not exactly voter-friendly for people who work.
I am here at the Doubletree. I have a DL stand up table right by the door and the bar.
Rand Paul wins in KY. Coats in IN
As much as I don’t agree w/ month long voting, and mail-in votes (not absentee) used in other states–I do wish the polls were open the entire 24 hrs. from midnite on Election Day. Some of us shift, 12 hr. shift, and double shift workers will never see a voting booth, and don’t have a schedule early enough to know to apply for absentee–plus the hassle. Just a thought—in this rambling 30 minutes before polls close.
What’s wrong with “month long voting” and “mail-in” voting, Joanne?
It’s too protracted. The greater window of opportunity for fraud. And of course, all those folks who die before Election Day–but will be counted :)!!!!
pandora @ 7:31, I think you just answered your own question.
The only documented instance of voter fraud of which I am aware in the last decade was committed by Ann Coulter.
Ha! Perhaps I did, Bobby!
5 minutes to go! Everyone ready!
Now do tell–which TV station should I be watching? I am hijacking “Corey in the House” I’m sure.
Don’t watch TV. Listen to the radio or read online. TV news coverage is part of the problem.
So far, this feels worse than 2000, for me, anyway. I mean, Rand Paul??? WTF!
3 MINUTES TO GO!
I hope Christine loses fast and hard!
Joanne- why not just absentee vote and then you don’t have to worry about your schedule or anything else?
A1, look at it this way. Rand Paul won an R seat – and had to spend a boatload of money to do it. Not exactly news. What will be interesting is watching McConnell and Boehner deal with him… an other tea partiers.
Couric just called it for Coons!?!
I can’t get local radio yeoman in the swamps. No wait…I can on the computer…that’s right.
Pa7th–an absentee vote for ME, just doesn’t lend itself for me to hear it all to the end–and seems so “early”. I really like the whole voting booth, election day ambiance.

🙂
Thanks, pandora. That is a good perspective.
The big TVs here at the Dem Party called it for Coons and Carney already. No voting data on the Department of Election’s website yet though..
Chip and Korn are leading so far!
Blumenthal wins Connecticut!
Chip currently has a 12 point lead!
Manchin wins in West Virginia!
Lawrence O’Donnell and Ed Schultz point out that purists helped eject Blanche Lincoln, a pro-choice voice who got health care reform passed.
Every man woman and child for himself.
Welcome to America.
What does that even mean, dv?
Blanche Lincoln is a blue dog Dem who was supported heavily by Obomba in the primary even though her primary opponent out-polled her substantially against the repub. That seat turned red after the primary – everybody knew that Lincoln did have a chance in the general. Another piece of Obomba genius.
purists helped eject Blanche Lincoln,
No, it was the establishment centrists who supported Lincoln, leading to her certain ejection. Pragmatists and purists alike supported Halter, who was polling better against Boozman.
a pro-choice voice who got health care reform passed.
I prefer to think of Lincoln as one of the few Democrats who blocked the public option and kept it out of our grasp.
Good riddance!!
Alan Grayson loses.
Like Pavlov’s dog, the purists bark on command. Pure losers.
Psst: Bill Clinton campaigned for her, too.
Choice matters, but purists don’t understand.
I got my Delaware back!
Cloutier’s whuppin’ Counihan. By far my worst prediction so far. Heffernan and Rebecca Walker in real close races. Barbieri looks like he might pull through.
Russ McCabe in the mix.
What producer decided that Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn) should be in heavy rotation? In over her head.
Bill Bennett back from the dead.
What we’re seeing tonight is not the result of the “purists.” It is the result of Obomba’s dishonest, incompetent, unjust, and corporatists leadership.
Hopefully, Sestak will win PA, in spite of Obomba’s supporting Spector.
I just wanted to say…
DELAWARE ROCKS! I’m so proud of us.
Dennis E. Williams is squeaking through, still.
It’s spelled Specter, moron.
[He’s only been a public figure for 45 years.]
What the bleep is going on in Kent County? Virtually no results from there yet.
B. Short wins, Barbieri pulling away from Spence. Walker looking better. Heffernan in the 6th and Russ McCabe downstate in razor-thin races. Dennis E. Williams has moved into the lead.
Must be one of your heros, Bilensky
Nancy’s done.
Kent County came in all at once. Bennett wins!? Even worse than my Cloutier pick. Scott wins and Queen Nancy Cook loses. Looks like Walls is losing, though.
Looks like the D’s are gonna pick up about 3 seats in the House. Thank you, Christine.
No results in 14th yet
Strike that
Looks like Flowers will pull it out. Up 5,000 with less than 20 ED’s to go.
Go Chip!
Oklahoma back in the lead for dumbest state.
Vote to outlaw Sharia law.
It was embarrassing watching Chris Matthews interview Tenn. Congresswoman Marcia Blackburn. Matthews was not letting her answer his questions and seemed to be attacking her because he didn’t like her answers.
How come MSNBC doesn’t have any conservatives at their roundtable? CNN has at least 33% conservatives; FOX has about 45% of liberals at its roundtable.
It’s actually funny to watch the ‘DOOM and GLOOM’ on the faces of MSNBC’s pundits. They keep looping the Blumenthal and Manchin wins for political effect ;0)
O’Donnell’s speaking now!
Wow! O’Donnell makes a lot of demands on Chris. Does she know she lost – and lost big?
I agree with COD, Delaware elections have changed. But I think the point is Delaware voters will not sleep through anymore elections and allow the crazies to take over the process.
Heffernan wins in the 6th. The best of the new D legislators!
Yessss!
Crazies–as in outside agencies/money/interest groups hijacking a closed primary? That was the real crime–and where we got blind-sided.
It was a well crafted hijacking. She announced right before the cutoff and before anyone could get registered for the primary. I don’t think anyone will let that happen again.
You know what El—I think the 6th had the best 2 people running. You guys would have won either way…seriously. I am looking forward to having now a “former” school board member down in Dover, who’s fresh in service. Unlike Schooley, who’s has been very disappointing w/ ed legislation.
The craziest thing I heard all night was from Palin on Fox. Who said that COD winning the Primary did not lose the seat for the Republicans, that Castle had no chance either in such a blue state.
So Palin is completely clueless.. okay I stated the obvious.
Yeah, Joanne, Kovach was good–for an R. However, I got a little tired of his being Greg Lavelle’s parrot. He lost some good will from me on that. Maybe next time he’ll be his own man, not the Monsignor’s acolyte.
All I’m waiting for now is the last ED in the 10th. If Dennis E. Williams hangs on, then it’ll be a net plus-two for the D’s in the House. Pretty remarkable considering the political landscape. The only D incumbent to lose would be Bob Walls from Kent County.
“More than half the votes in and Sestak is actually holding on to a 4 or 5 point lead.”
Super majority for the Democrats in the State House. How will batshitcrazypolitics.net spin that? Bwahhhhhh
Blue Dogs dropping like flies.
Tancredo Loses! I’m thrilled!
Great!!!!
Congrats to you.
Thanks RSmitty. Sorry about Marino in the 9th. I knew you worked hard for him.
Thanks, Smitty. You, sir, are a gentlemen… unlike all the potty mouths around here tonight. 😉
Yes, DD, I did. He’s a good man. I know a bunch of shit was said behind the scenes about him that wasn’t so up-and-up and it resulted in some in-campaign ill-will between him and Becky, but in the end, Becky even said she thought he treated her with respect. Heck, if it weren’t for her husband being there today, you’d think Becky and I were married, given the amount of time she and I spent together throughout the day today. All coincidental, of course! 😛 It does sting, tho.
A night of wins locally for us, and losses nationally for us. So we are all in the same boat.
Thanks, P. Not sure why I’d come here for solace (I guess I like getting kicked in the balls), but I sure the freak ain’t going to where I once called home, until mid-2009.
The Dems lost all of the row offices down here. Russ Melrath ran a good campaign, but it wasn’t enough. Jim Westhoff lost, but he ran a great race. The Rethuglicans are now a MINOR party in Colorado. And the Dems have a super-majority in the state House.
RSmitty, we love our moderate Republicans or center right independents.
Yeah, I talked to Russ earlier, and he expected to lose 60-40, which is what happened. He is in good spirits. Shockingly, Melrath outpolled Cordrey I believe, and Cordrey ran a good campaign.
Not this “we,” DD.
DD – as I texted to ‘Geek earlier tonight, my focus has always been heavily local, as that has more direct impact on my life than does national, so it’s a loss for me.
Honestly, I don’t ever seek domination of any party, regardless of who it is. What I would like to see is just a small margin majority and different majorities across chambers. It forces conversation, bargaining, and usually a big dose of pragmatism. Anyone that knows me knows that “pragmatic” is a big, big deal with me.
On that vein, eff the Toilet Party.
Smitty, your former home is quiet as a tomb tonight.
P – it’s likely because they are formulating ways to blame everyone else but themselves. “Culpability” is on their banned word list.
Regrets mightily Smitty–never saw Walker at a school board meeting—and I only hope Quinn Johnson can get her up to speed. In fact, I can’t think of too much I’ve ever seen Walker at–that’s community centered. Oh well, here’s goes 2 years of holding our breath that it will all work out. We count on our reps HEAVILY down here. And they give a TON of time.
Steaksauce – be honest, you don’t even love half the Democrats that post or comment here. In other words, I get you.
And Chip Flowers beat No-Show Bonini (who did a drive by of an ED in Georgetown today). He couldn’t even get his fat ass out of the car to stop and say hello to the voters.
Joann – I have to move on. It doesn’t mean I change anything about myself, but I have to keep going forward. As much as this is painful, it’s far more defeatist to fold my arms, throw a hissy fit, and attempt to arrest progress for the 9th. By the way, I am NOT saying this to reflect on you, but really to illustrate how I take the options that I truly have. BTW, you are right about how much leaning is done on reps down here, it’s huge.
I disagree with many of the political and policy decisions, it’s true. But I like and respect everyone here personally, including you, in my own anonone way.
steaksauce
It’s mutual. I like steaksauce. Ha! Seriously, mutual respect.
Agreed Smitty–but we have received NO INTEREST in district happenings–and for a district that’s a happening–continually–it’s real disappointing, and scary. Jacques has a smidge of his district in our school district and comes out regularly to check in with us. Just an observation.
Russ Feingold Loses. I am very sad about this.
Manpants.
Very sorry about Feingold 🙁
So since Urkel lost, I guess that means we’re still stuck with Curly down here on WGOP.
Toomey is ahead now in PA
I’d like to extend a big fuck you to Barack Obama for making tonight possible. So, fuck you very much.
Anonone a minor-league Steinbrenner. “I win; they lose.”
Thanks to hundreds of hard-working Democrats and independents who worked together to build a better General Assembly that will give Gov. Markell a stronger hand.
I am happy you’re enjoying yourself so much tonight, Belinsky.
Toomey just opened up on Sestak. TV reporting that remaining nums are from the “T” (meaning not Pitt or Philly) area of PA. That race is probably done, given it’s reportting mid-90%.
Ah, freak. I really don’t care about the national scene, other than trying to enjoy a nail biter of a race.
I came in giving a blanket ‘congrats to you’ and will leave the same. Enjoy it. I don’t, but it’s not my place to slop on the scene.
Congrats to you. Good night.
Tonight is the true REVEAL. Too bad Obomba felt that giving mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to the repubs was more important than keeping his promises to the dems that elected him.
A1’s fellow Greens hand Illinois Senate seat to GOP.

is Boner crying? or having a stroke?
Boehner’s crying! on cue!
OMG! Boehner is crying again… and again… and, now again.
Oops… and again. What a baby.
Barbara Boxer FTW!
it’s because he is so strong and loves america so much….
or because he just realized he became the leader of a band of crazy teatards and he will have to be their puppet or receive a second amendment solution. have a fun next 2 years.
