Our Interview with Bill Dunn: Balancing the County Budget

Filed in National by on November 14, 2010

Cassandra and I sat down with Bill Dunn last Tuesday evening to discuss his candidacy for the Democratic nomination in the special election to replace Paul Clark as New Castle County Council President. Paul Clark will be moving up the ladder to replace Chris Coons as County Executive tomorrow. County Councilman Tim Sheldon is also a candidate for the Democratic nomination, and we will be sitting down with him to discuss his campaign shortly.

Here is part one of the interview, on the topic of balancing the county budget over the next two years, the prospects for economic recovery in Delaware, the expansion of the Delaware Greenways Project and Light Rail in the County. Please excuse my Andy Reid style clearing of the throat in the second part:

Thanks for asking about non-car based transportation. Simply having developers address issues of non-vehicle connectivity of developments would be a huge boon to our quality of life in addition to the economic development benefits.

It’s a pity that we are so beholden to and fascinated with the car in the USA. Rail systems for local transportation make a lot of sense.
