The Hypocrisy, It Burns
The hypocrisy is strong in this one:
Republican Andy Harris, an anesthesiologist who defeated freshman Democrat Frank Kratovil on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, reacted incredulously when informed that federal law mandated that his government-subsidized health care policy would take effect on Feb. 1 – 28 days after his Jan. 3rd swearing-in.
“He stood up and asked the two ladies who were answering questions why it had to take so long, what he would do without 28 days of health care,” said a congressional staffer who saw the exchange. The benefits session, held behind closed doors, drew about 250 freshman members, staffers and family members to the Capitol Visitors Center auditorium late Monday morning,”.
“Harris then asked if he could purchase insurance from the government to cover the gap,” added the aide, who was struck by the similarity to Harris’s request and the public option he denounced as a gateway to socialized medicine.
Oh the horror of going uninsured! Of course he won’t be uninsured, he can purchase insurance from his former employer to cover the gap under the COBRA law. Does Harris even realize that there a millions of Americans who can’t afford insurance and millions that have been determined to be uninsurable until the ACA was passed? I think the Marylanders that elected Dr. Harris are going to be disappointed with a Representative that doesn’t understand what real people experience. But, it’s OK, he’s a Republican, so he can give you a long list of things he’s scared of.
My favorite part is his explanation:
Nix said Harris, who is the father of five, wasn’t being hypocritical – he was just pointing out the inefficiency of government-run health care.
He was just pointing out the inefficiency of not having healthcare on DAY 1. Kinda like normal people, some who never get any healthcare.

but that’s different. it is HIM and HIS FAMILY…. not THEM. we dont want to cover THEM. That is socialist. We want to covor ME. That’s ‘merican
It is common for insurance to kick in after 30 days. I don’t think I have ever been covered on Day 1. Not sure why; maybe there is a reason buried in ERISA or something.
You have to wonder though why a doctor would not have a passing familiarity with insurance and when it kicks in. I guess if somebody’s insurance plan didn’t start for 30 days, Harris just never saw them and so never learned how it works.
It was always my impression that physicians received a lot of care free as professional courtesy. I guess when you are a Congressman though you have to worry about ethics rules on gifts, so maybe his free health care dried up.
” I guess when you are a Congressman though you have to worry about ethics rules on gifts”
HAH! good one.
“he was just pointing out the inefficiency of government-run health care.”
Except that the government subsidizing insurance plans for its employees is pretty similar to what any other employer that provides insurance does, and has jack to do with ‘government-run’ anything, but whatever, facts are hard and thinking is complicated.
I guess when you are a Congressman though you have to worry about
ethics rules on giftsgetting caught accepting illegal gifts.thats more like it, anon.
Most private companies and the state of Delaware have a 90 day waiting period before a new employee is insured.
Teabaggers like Andy are just another entitlement crowd, they go to rallys and scream that we need to cut welfare and social services for other people, but they demand cost of living increases for their social security and go crazy if you touch their medicare or the services they use.
Thy hypocrisy is that he is electing to be covered by a government-run health care plan instead of just buying somethng on the open market. As I told a co-worker today, maybe he’s been hit with a stupid stick too many times.
This government plan cost us taxpayers over $10,000 a year for each congressman and senator so the newly elected Teabaggers should refuse it if they are true to their word. Unfortunately they are not and will be just like the Repuks who ran on the contract with America which called for term limits and some of them are still there today
