What Does It Take? Wooden Stakes? Silver Bullets?

Filed in Delaware by on November 18, 2010

You have to give him points for persistence:

I think I’ve lost track of how many elections Mike Protack has lost. Does losing the nomination for NCCo Council President count in that losing record?

The article today left out other losses, one of them where he finished third in a five-way primary in 1998 for the house seat Valihura won that year.

I’m tired of this guy. He obviously tries to understand issues and in some cases does an OK job at that, but he completely ignores what it takes to become electable. Rather, he keeps his little fire of discontent smoldering and freely throws jugs of gasoline on to it whenever any small detail of disagreement comes his way.

I personally don’t like him anymore, period. Went from supporting him in ’06 to true dislike today (it didn’t take that long, tho). The frustrating part is the potential was there, but he can’t help himself when it comes to scorching the earth when anything, from little to big, doesn’t go his way, so potential-wasted.

It also cracks me up that he thinks no one is on to these sock-puppet comments, too. How many years has that been happening? Potential: wasted.

  2. Delaware Dem says:

Let’s see. I really do think he has run for every office, at least twice.

    Governor 2008, 2004
    U.S. Senator 2006, 2002
    County Council 2010
    County Council President 2010

It feels like there should be more.

  3. SkyPilot says:

You are forgetting his most memorable defeat of all- the unsuccessful bid to become Mill Creek Regional Chair.

I’m not a psychiatrist, but I did see part of an episode of In Treatment the other night in a bar: The sound was down and I was drunk but I think I got the the gist of it.
This guy PROTACK needs LOVE from the masses.
He won’t settle for anything less.
His obsession will not be quenched even if he’s successful at these county positions.
They would only whet his appetite for HIGHER and HIGHER positions and he would spend ALL his time in pursuit of them.

  5. Polemical says:

Protack makes COD’s perennial runs for elected office look like a tee-baller in little-league.

Why doesn’t Protack pick something useful to champion like the new TSA screening machines and pat-downs? (since he’s supposedly an airline pilot).

  6. Pol Pot Pilot says:

Protack’s most memorable moment was when he couldn’t break 30% in a GOP primary against an opponent who didn’t even bother to show up to get nominated.

This was a classic Protackian campaign: 1) anonymous mailings with Bill Lee holding a cup at the Starboard were sent to every church, veterans group and community group in the state 2) internet minions were deployed to shout down any decent comment made on a blog about his opponent 3) radio ads blasting Lee for “enjoying dancing and women” were played all over the state.

If I couldn’t break 30% under those circumstances in a closed GOP Primary I would drop out of politics immediately.

  7. Aoine says:

May be we all need to wear garlic too……let’s hope COD learns and she goes away too
Better yet……let’s hope they both go away together

    To Club Fed….

  8. RSmitty says:

This is becoming memory lane on DL! The sock puppet returns and the anti-sock-puppet, too! Welcome back, PPP! I actually almost forgot about your well-used closing line (and you, for that matter). Ah yes, MikeyP passively trying to pressure his opponent into dropping out over a personal tragedy. Nothing like letting (someone else’s) tragedy go unwasted.
    Potential: wasted.

  9. cassandra_m says:

I don’t know how I’d feel about Protack calling it quits. It is a singular bit of fun to watch the most misbehaving router in the business do its thing.

  10. Von Cracker says:

I, for one, would relish the opportunity to watch Otto the autopilot get blown-up once again.

  11. JustTheFacts says:

If Protack had started running for County Council in the beginning, he’d probably be Governor now….

Well, not quite, but you get the idea….

  12. What does it take to get the Protack gone? TSA X-ray scanners and lots of ’em! Irradiate this guy right outta my hair!

  13. Patriot says:

I know he will be around.

  14. Patriot says:

The Kovach race will be a bust and the GOP will finally go through a complete purge top to bottom. Mike has been at the pointy edge of challenging these fools and he will be at the top come May.
For those who cite primary losses, look at the record of those who have abused Protack.

Lee Gov 2008 loss of 30%
Ting Senate 2006 Loss of 35%
Copeland Lt gov 2008 Loss if 25%
Wharton AG 2006 loss of 7%
Ursomarso Lt Gov 2004 loss of 40%
Burris 2000 Gov loss of 20%
Rochford 2000 Lt Gov loss of 25%
    Brady I C 2008 loss of 20%
2008 no candidate for NCC Exec
2008 no candidate for NCC Pres
2004 Castagno NC Exec loss of 17%
2004 Lopez NCC Prez loss of 22%
    2002 State house 29 R 12 D
    2010 Sate house 26 D 15 R
    2002 State Senate 13 D 8 R
    2010 State Senate 15 D 6 R
    Voter Registration in 1992 D vs R 6% spread
    Voter registration in 2010 D vs R 19% spread

Mike will have his choice of what he wants to do.

  15. Anvil says:

“Mike will have his choice of what he wants to do.” That’s the nice thing about living in the good old USA, we get to make those choices. The voters who have had the opportunity to make their choice for or against Protack have consistently made their choice. What’s going to change? 16. Mike says:

Anvil. Are you talking about Obama?

  17. cookie says:

    PPP
Nice to see you back on the record.

    Diagnosis for Protack: Pure Evil.

  18. Geezer says:

What would this “complete purge from top to bottom” look like, pray tell? Who would replace the moderate upstate Republicans? Who would do the grunt work? Most important, where would the money come from?
