Friday Open Thread

Filed in National by on December 17, 2010

Welcome to your Friday open thread. This is a special “Friday sucks!” version especially for meatball. The rest of you are invited too, no matter what your opinion of Friday is. Thanks to everyone who braved the roads last night to come to the War on Christmas party. We had a great time and a decent turnout.

The secret gay agenda revealed! The gays want to steal our rainbows (and probably hide the pots o’ gold, too):

Becky Yeh of right-wing American Family News Network’s OneNewsNow, a product of the American Family Association, writes that Morse says “the rainbow is a sign of God’s covenant with man.” Morse told ONN: “Proposition 8 was passed by a great grassroots coalition that included people from all across the religious traditions, and also people of every race and color. We are the real rainbow coalition. The gay lobby does not own the rainbow.”

Please, I urge RWNJs to decorate with rainbows. There’s even more crazy stuff on the Ruth Institute‘s website:

Morse operates a blog on the Ruth Institute’s website, and recently wrote a post asking supporters of same-sex marriage: “Do you really believe that mothers and fathers are interchangeable and that gender is irrelevant to parenting? If gender is really irrelevant, why do self-described “gays” insist on having a male sex partner? Why isn’t a really masculine woman just as acceptable as a male sex partner?”

Why isn’t a really masculine woman just as acceptable as a male sex partner? Ummm….errrrrrr…I’ll let someone else field that question.

This is bad news:

WASHINGTON — Sen. Ron Wyden has been diagnosed with prostate cancer and will undergo surgery Monday, his office said Thursday.

The initial diagnosis came during Wyden’s annual physical in November and was confirmed by tests. Spokeswoman Jennifer Hoelzer said the cancer is in it’s earliest stages and doctors told Wyden that his prognosis is good.

Luckily the cancer is in its early stages and prostate cancer is one of the most treatable forms of cancer. Wyden’s office also announced that Wyden would be able to vote this weekend, since the DADT repeal and DREAM Act are coming up for cloture tomorrow with a possible vote on Sunday.

    I have to share this!

Two nights ago I asked my daughter what she wanted for Christmas. She replied that she would like a nicely cushioned room and a snazzy jacket. And, yes, it took me several minutes to figure out that she was talking about a padded cell and a straitjacket. She thinks she’s clever.

If Obama is really holding his nose about the compromise tax bill, why is he holding a public ceremony as he signs it?

    Thanks so much for remembering.

    Joe Biden in full flower:

Get out of the way. There’s too much at stake for America’s national security. … I hope I don’t get in the way of your Christmas shopping, but this is the nation’s business. This is the national security at stake. Act. Act.

A re-read of the introduction and reflection of my current financial and employment situation (after being awake, alert, and reactive all night literally saving lives), leads me to reconsider any negative connotation I may have implied (even jokingly).

It isn’t cubicle work, nor is it ditch digging, yet often it has the reward of immediate satisfaction for interventions applied. All in all not a bad gig if you can get it. I’m happy to be working every weekend at a job a trained monkey could do while having the rest of the week off to persue the pleasures of life.

But, I still dread the weekends:] when all you townies come down.

Seriously, do you check your brains at the Nassau Bridge?

TGIM!!! Anyone else think the weekend was especially long? No? Enjoy your week suckers! Just kidding about all this stuff. Love you guys and hope your week seems short and fulfilling. I had a great weekend (did I mention I was at work all w/e?).

@meatball – trust me they check them at Broadkill – becoz I KNOW they have lost them BEfORE the Nassau bridge………..

I’m going shopping today! becoz the geese have taken flight and gone back up north or across the pond and I can find a spot to park and no one is ripping clothes out of my hands
