Ignite Wilmington Speakers Announced

Filed in National by on March 25, 2011

Ed Note: I changed the title. The first one was written a little hastily.

Look at the list of speakers. Notice anything odd?

Joseph Masiello – Delaware’s Teacher of the Year will speak about the Power of Teachers!
Patrick Callahan – How a tweet turned into a trip for him to Pakistan (which he returned safely from!)
Jackie Ivy – How do you define beauty?
Kati Driscoll – AAA – How to decide if your social program is successful
Sam Hobbs – Twin Lakes Brewing
J. Anthony Miguez – Putting Wilmington on the map
Maiza Hixson – DCCA
Bill Swezey- What is “The Cloud” Anyway and Why Should I Care?
Scott Spencer – The potential of High Speed Rail for Delaware and our nation
Mike Schwarz – 2nd & LOMA- One year later
Julie MacWilliams and Erin Sicuranza – Jumping the Mommy Track
Candice Roseo – Bella Vista Trattoria – Italian Wines you should know but don’t

I had the most votes, and yet… ? But wait… maybe I got it wrong. Maybe they were going to pick all the speakers and the voting this was just for fun. Let me check that link.

This is what they say…

HOW WE’LL MAKE SELECTIONS:

The community will choose half of the speakers, and the organizers will choose the other half. We will make an attempt to select a wide range of topics so that there isn’t much overlap in terms of content and subjects that were covered at previous Ignite Wilmington events.

Hmmm…? Looks like that is bullshit and should be revised off the web site. I mean, unless I’m missing something. Does anyone know anyone at THE ARCHER GROUP?

Hmmm. maybe I’ll ask for a ticket refund if an explanation isn’t forthcoming.

  2. jason330 says:

Thanks for the support. I really would like to know about the process. If it is “These are are friends.” I get that, and I will stop trying. If I missed something about the voting, I’d like to know what I missed.

    They got Tommywonk too!

Here are the top 7 votegetters:

51 votes: Deploying Employee Satisfaction as a Strategic Weapon
    by Jason Scott

34 votes: What is “The Cloud” Anyway and Why Should I Care?
    by Bill Swezey

32 votes: The Economic Benefits of Renewable Energy in Delaware
    by Tom Noyes

27 votes: Top 5 Free Tools for SEO / Google Ranking
    by Bill Swezey

4 votes: 5 Simple Ways to Improve Any Relationship
    by Michelle Renee Johnson

2 votes: Tag Clouds A Cure For Information Overload
    by John Lozes

    1 vote: Heros Never Die!
    by David B. Rich

    Looks like:

    a. Less than half the topics were chosen by the community, and
    b. The organizers are choosing their selections from some other list.

  4. jason330 says:

Yes. The voting appears to be a sham. I wish I knew how to get on that other list.

  5. father john says:

perhaps if you weren’t a profligate serial hater with the foulest mouth around, you’d be recognized. Father Johns says: thou shall reap what thou sows.

  6. anon says:

Good point. But then how do you explain Tommywonk?

  7. Jason330 says:

That’s a terrible point. I have received word that it was not my occasional cussing, but not knowing about the actual list that kept myself and Tom of the speakers list. I’ll update this post tomorrow… probably.

  8. andy staton says:

I’m excited to see Jackie Ivy in the lineup – terrific speaker, wonderful designer, and another Leadership Delaware Fellow (class of 2011) strutting her stuff – from the left side! Can’t wait to see that.

  9. Jason330 says:

No hard feelings toward any of the accepted speakers, I’m sure they are great. I just wonder how they got their proposals in front of the selection committee. It seems very clubby.

  10. skippertee says:

Oh, father john, you are priceless.
    “reap what thou sows”?
Don’t you turned collar types actually mean:”Rape what thou blows”?
With the LATEST revelations coming from the Philly Diocese, I’d keep my head down if I were thee.
[But NOT on the teeny-weeny of a powerless altar-boy, mind thee]
And, by the by, I thought they burned you on “The Ensemble Pederasty Case”.
    I may be mistaken.
