House Redistricting Plans Are Up!
I’m posting the link to these without having an opportunity to look at them myself (and won’t until work is done) AND –more crucially — without Bulo’s analysis. He’ll likely be here later to do that in another post.
But in the meantime, take a look at the House’s Proposed Redistricing Plan and tell us what you think.
(h/t and Thanks to anonymous tipster!)

I wish they would have labeled the districts in the statewide map pdf on that site. It’s kind of hard to tell where the new districts are and how they’re numbered without opening each separate district map.
@MJ – agreed

ROTFLMAO
King is gonna be MAD

Hmmm…Terry Spence no longer lives in the 18th.
OK, I moved the comments over to Cassandra’s thread and deleted mine. Sorry.
Also, I have asked for a better statewide map with districts labeled. We’ll see what happens.
If I am looking at this correctly, Manilokas and Miro will have to primary each other as well as Lavelle and Hudson?
Why is King going to be pissed? They made Georgetown all of the 37th and it looks like Pete shed his conservative ED’s and gave them to her.
That statewide map is about as helpful as a rubber crutch.
I spoke to Aoine. RBK is going to be pissed because she picked up a lot of the manufactured home parks in Longneck and they are too thrilled with anyone who represents realtors and the park owners. RBK is in bed with both groups.
Looks like they updated the statewide with numbers.
Cassandra 1 Liberalgeek 1?
I’ll take the point, although I doubt that I’m the only one that asked…
So south-west NCC and northwest KC get the 11th with no incumbent. That’ll be fun.
The canal becomes a political boundary with the 9th retreating to the south-east and Jaques and Longhurst split the northern shore of the canal. Walker and Q. Johnson split the southern shore.
Bye-bye 9th.
It does not help Walker to lose the toehold north of the canal. I think that is union country.
If I’m reading the demographic data correctly, there are only two RDs that have a Republican plurality. The 22nd (where two incumbents will be facing off against each other) has 38.44% Rs, 34.88% D’s and 26.68% Other. The 38th has 43.33% Rs, 36.47% Ds and 20.2% Other. As Dr Frankenstein would say, “nice grouping.”
Any word on the proposed Senate map?
And the new 20th has no incumbent and looks good for Russ McCabe. My guess is that 9/12er Sandi Minard will run as the teabagger candidate.
She was strong in the 6th of the 9th (north of the canal along the MD line). I don’t know about union membership in that area, but probably her Delaware City ED’s were pretty strong union people. Those areas will go to Longhurst with the 6th going to Earl.
It also looks like they were able to (by and large) stick to main roads and other obvious lines to draw the RD borders. I have not checked all of the Districts, but I don’t see any chopped up developments.
Who was the 20th created for?
I think the Senate map can’t be done until we know where the ED breaks are going to be for the RD map.
ah, i see MJ answered while i was looking around.
They unchopped a whole lot of ’em that were chopped up by Wayne Smith. As far as I can tell, Brandywine Hundred is clean.
Not exactly true, LG. These are still preliminary maps. Once plans are finalized, little differentials that pop up can be ironed out quickly.
The only thing holding up the Senate plan at this point is the Senate, which had promised a map by May 12.
RD9 is creative in the northwest corner of it. They carved Marino out, away from Walker (surprise – not). Quinn makes a magical leap across Summit Bridge Rd, on the south border of the canal to grab Lea Era Farms away from D9. Quinn also gives up a bit of his strongest D-support, too (south of Middletown, through Townsend), although not necessarily saying this will make him sweat…he still has Middletown.
OK, pop quiz, which two reps will have the whitest districts?
I didn’t dare say it, because I didn’t want to jinx it – but I think Liberalgeek is back.
as far as the 20th ( the new one)
Snowball = Sandi Minard
Hell = the new 20th
thats about her chance there
no so fast pardner…
MJ – Is the new 20th intended for McCabe or Brady? I can’t get it to load on this computer, but it sounded like it was wrapped around more to the south of Route 9 than the north, which is McCabe’s territory.
Oh, Minard won’t win. I just think that is who the rethuglicans will run.
McCabe. John Brady lives off of Route 24 and will still be in Pete’s district. Pete also kept his promise and pulled Dewey Beach back into the 14th.
Sorry we apparently double-posted, LG. When I started writing this there didn’t seem to be anyone else writing on it at the time.
Mine was less of a post and more of a link. My bad, totally.
Clearly Pete isn’t afraid of a repeat run by Chris Weeks.
Ah, and Earl Jaques is no longer in the district with Jim Maravelias, so no chance of a repeat matchup there.
Technical correction. Dewey is coming to the 14th for the first time not returning. This is the first reapportionment for the 14th. The move was made 10 years ago to deny Bob Frederick an opportunity to run. Another note 2002 was the first time district numbers were lifted and moved to other areas of the state. Prior to that The map was renumbered from north to south.
My guess is that Chris will have to talk to Laurie about running again and I don’t think she wants him to.
I always want to give the Republican candidate in the 14th a fair shot at winning my vote, but man is Chris Weeks boring!
Actually, Chris and Laurie are nice people. Chris’s politics are just wrong, IMO. Maybe if he didn’t hang around St. Bodie Girl and the other teabaggers from Georgetown, he’d be OK. And their kids are great, too.
I’m sure they are nice people. His campaign was just uninspired.
Looks like I was spot on: ROTFLMAO!!

“Ruth King will NOT be welcomed in Long Neck, she has consistently voted against every one of our issues while in the House. Ed Speraw for 37th Rep.?”
GENIUS!! ABSOLUTE GENIUS!
Just to make sure I’m reading this right–the 35th District remains largely the same, and still includes Dave Wilson. Is that right?
My computer is having a tough time opening these documents.
er note 2002 was the first time district numbers were lifted and moved to other areas of the state. Prior to that The map was renumbered from north to south.
Yeah … why did they start doing that? Makes utterly no sense, and it’s confusing as all heck.
Wilson is still in the 35th, but just barely. Briggs King is still in the 37th, but just barely. And giving RBK the Longneck manufactured homes is not doing her any favors.
Regarding the new Georgetown district, dont pop the corks in celebration just yet First, the manufactured homeowners don’t vote. The voting numbers are abysmal in those neighborhoods. Secondly, Millsboro is ground zero for 9/12 folks. The dem challenger will still have an uphill battle there.
If the prospect of kicking out Ruth Briggs King, former executive director of the landowners’ group, doesn’t spark the homeowners to vote, nothing will.
Jim, Long Neck has never been considered Millsboro by the locals. Its ten miles east of town and full of transplants.
However, the other anon is correct. RBK will have a tough road to hoe if Pete and Atkins rally the DMHOA group to vote against her. Shes not popular down there.
LMAO I love the 37th. I’m literally living on the border. Never even considered gerrymandering Gtown and Long Neck together.
It forces the crazies either to merge into the fold and make the 37th strong, or fight amongst themselves and split the vote.
Brilliance. Effin Brilliant.
Interesting to see that there is not one word over at batshitcrazypolitics.net about the redistricting maps.
I think WE’re the batshitcrazyones when it comes to this stuff.
And, hey, I admit it, I love it!
I’m also just lovin’ all these little swerves that are coming out, especially in Sussex. Schwartzkopf definitely knows what he’s doing. He’s probably playing three-dimensional chess as we speak. If he can find anyone in Sussex to play it with.
batshitcrazypolitics.net is likely waiting for instructions from their handlers on exactly what they *should* think about the proposed maps. Adjusting the hive mind takes some time, apparently.
seems they are spending their time more concerned about whose “dickey” is in who – in otherwords – the bedroom, not the Hall….
imagine – smallpox was never given to the Indians by the whites, the Pilgrims were slaves and jefferson never had sex with Sally hemmings….
obviously they are living in 1700’s – they have never heard of:
1. forensic anthropology and DNA testing for strains of bacteria and viruses
2. history – as in the truth – not the revisionist kind
3. mitochondrial DNA testing
Where is UI – she would be HOWLING on the floor reading those posts over there – as a scientist.
They really are the equivalent of the Catholic Chruch – circa 1400 Italy – science deniers……
