Obama Redistricting Plans Out – Holy Land to Gain 1 State

Filed in National by on May 19, 2011

The 1967 border map has always been my second favorite Israel.

The ’47 UN partition plan map is my favorite.

“He [Obama] said that the status of Jerusalem and agreement on the rights of Palestinian refugees to return to the new nation should be determined once the stalled talks resume.”

The status of Jerusalem and the “right of return” are the two basic reasons why the talks are stalled in the first place.

  2. MJ says:

If the Arab countries had not attacked the newly established Israel in 1948, then the 1947 map would have worked. But as we all know, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon, with aid from the Arab League and under the call from the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, attacked. The Arabs lost.

I personally have no problem giving back the West Bank and Gaza, but the Golan Heights must remain as part of Israel, as this is where Syrian army and Palestinian terrorists would launch rockets on Kibbutzim inside Israel. But any agreement must cede all of Jerusalem to Israel.

  8. Delaware Dem says:

MJ, as I understand it, the Golan Heights issue is separate from any peace talks with the Palestinian Authority. It is an issue between Syria and Israel. And I really have no problem with Israel holding onto it.

I updated this post with a map of the status of things as of 2000. Israeli land grabs have only intensified since then and since the election of Bibi Netyanahu as Prime Minister.

The simple truth is: any peace deal has to include a viable Palestinian state and a secure Israeli state. That is what President Obama said yesterday. So if the Palestinians want peace and a country of their own, they have to guarantee Israel’s security and safety. And if Israel wants peace, it will have to give back land that they have taken so that there is a viable Palestinian state.

Yes, some Jewish settlements in the West Bank will have to be abandoned just like they were abandoned in Gaza.

As for Jersusalem, I wonder if the only solution is that neither side gets it. Perhaps it should be an open city until either U.N. or U.S. control.

  9. anon says:

Remember Israel is founded as a Jewish state first, and a democracy second. And Israel is becoming demographically less and less Jewish. So Israel will have to give back most of the disputed territories simply to assure its survival as a Jewish state.

The settlement expansion seems pretty irrational, until you think of it as a way to assure Jewish political control within the disputed territories. Once they give the lands back, the demographic problem is solved (I think).

But Israel would be crazy to give anything back without Arab and international guarantees of security.

  10. Naomi K. Syken says:

“The truth about the real Palestinian Identity. It’s time to remind ourselves, remember and / or learn Who the TRUE Palestinians are

Even in the Arab-Jewish Treaty (1919) The Arab state is a clearly different legal Entity than Palestine:

    Article I
The Arab State and Palestine in all their relations and undertakings shall be controlled by the most cordial goodwill and understanding, and to this end Arab and Jewish duly accredited agents shall be established and maintained in the respective territories.

    Article II
Immediately following the completion of the deliberations of the Peace Conference, the definite boundaries between the Arab State and Palestine shall be determined by a Commission to be agreed upon by the parties hereto.

Even the most pro-Arabic “White Paper” of 1939 knows only “the Arab population of Palestine” (Section I, The Constitution).
Arabs were by no means known as “Palestinians”, as neither were Turks, Kurds, or others. Only the Jews were and still are.”

  11. Delaware Dem says:

So only Jewish people are Palestinian. Meanwhile, the population of Israel is becoming less and less Jewish, and more and more Arabic. Indeed, demographic changes in Israel will produce a majority Arab population within the coming two decades if not sooner. Thus soon, Israelis will be mostly muslim Arabs.

    The irony.

  12. Naomi K. Syken says:

“1919-01-03: The highest official Arab Delegation freely signed the Treaty on Jewish Homeland in Palestine
    http://facebook.com/album.php?aid=53598&id=1807351640 .
It stated that all Palestine belongs to the Jews and that Palestine could not be an Arabian State or an Arabian Kingdom. Arabs signed it with Zionist Jews, and there were no contradiction between Arabs and Zionists because Arabs clearly know that Palestine is 100% Jewish land. Even Qur’an mentioned that 15 times without a smallest doubt – see an example:

    http://www.nymei.org/uploads/7/3/3/3/7333418/982749799_orig.jpg
Qur’an is clearly stating that ALL Palestine belongs to the Jews (some secular people don’t know that “people lead by Moses” is the essential definition of the Jews – well, now you know).

1919-03-03: The chief of the Arabian delegation wrote: “We Arabs… look with the deepest sympathy on the Zionist movement. Our deputation here in Paris is fully acquainted with the proposals submitted yesterday by the Zionist Organization to the Peace Conference, and we regard them as moderate and proper. We will do our best, in so far as we are concerned, to help them through; we will wish the Jews a most hearty welcome home”.

1947-11-29: British university textbooks (all other textbooks are just a blueprint from these)planted sordid forgery namely
    “UN decision to create Israel”.

One can trace the historical facts back in time…….

  13. MJ says:

Actually, anyone born in Palestine before 1948 is a Palestinian. My cousin, who was born in Jerusalem in 1919 (and went on to be an actor here in the US – he was in On The Waterfront), is a Palestinian.

Yes, there has to be some give back of land, much as Begin did with Sinai. But there also has to be some sort of security for Israel from terrorism.

This can be done. We just need to find the right people on both sides who are committed to achieving this. And neither Bibi nor Hamas are the right people.

  14. anon says:

1967 borders for Israel? We can’t even manage to go back to the 2000 taxes for America. And let’s see if we can hang onto the 1965 Medicare.

Israelie Killings of Palestinans on Nakba Day.

Last week the Spirit of Rachel Corey Flotilla was attacked by zionists in international waters, not one word on american Tv.

Last Monday prior to Bibis trip to the US, he signed for 1600 more settlements in the heart of East Jerusalem (all illegal). Even Livni states, that “Bibi is causing unnecessary strains on US relations with Israel…

  16. Obama never said ‘shall use 1967 borders’ he suggested starting there in land swap negotiations. Shame on Bibi for his wingnut bullshit.

  17. heragain says:

What the sam hill would ensure a ‘viable Palestinian state”? All due respect to the thorough screwing given Arab Palestinians by the Arab states before Israel piled on, I see no evidence in modern times that they have found leadership that enables them to administer even a paleolithic country, much less a modern one.

  18. anon says:

AIPAC PR: “Aipac should rescind the invitation for Obama to speak”! Anti Defamation League applauded Obama.
CFR: For the first time the US has articulated what the territorial basis for a settlement should be”.

There is a reason why Obama doesnt want the Palestinans to get their statehood from the UN in Sept. Since the US has failed to bring peace, the UN would decide and of course Obama’s appointment of Susan Rice would have to VOTE No, over ruling 100 countries who have already signed on.

Israel wants to keep all its weapons of mass destruction, and force Palestine to be a “non militarized state”. So what would stop the attacks by Israel on unarmed Palestinans in the future?

  19. anon says:

The International COURT has ruled on this issue. all of the West Bank, All of Gaza, All the Golan Heights and E. Jerusalem belong to the Palestinans.

Obama said, We believe the borders of Israel and Palestine should be based on the 1967 borders as a “starting point” for launching peace negiotiations! Obama can not over rule the international court on this issue. Democracynow.org…fridays show.

  20. anon says:

So what would stop the attacks by Israel on unarmed Palestinans in the future?

Treaties, mutual recognition, and international two-way security guarantees based on a mutual land-for-peace deal.

  21. anon says:

Really! Israel has violated 62 UN Resolutions, and that hasnt stopped them. They were told by Bush regime and Obama administration to stop building those illegal settlements…they refused? Send in the Troops, put up a NO fly zone over Gaza…thats the only thing the Israelies understand. Jewish Rabbis, professors, students and general public (50% of Israel) are supporting Obama.

  22. Avagadro says:

we could try and go back to the 1200bc map where the Kingdom of Isreal cover all of modern Lebanon, half of syria, 2/3rds of Jordan, and half the siani.

if you we are picking historical dates, why not that one?

  23. Avagadro says:

Ottawa won’t back Obama’s Mideast peace proposal

Globe and Mail 2011-05-20 Daniel Leblanc

The Harper government is refusing to join the United States in calling for a return to 1967 borders as a starting point for Mideast peace, a position that has drawn sharp criticism from Canada’s staunch ally Israel.
