Erik Schramm to Step Down

Filed in National by on July 1, 2011

Erik Schramm, Chief of Staff to the House Democratic Caucus, announced that he will step down from his post in August to pursue opportunities outside the political arena. He was honored with a tribute last night during the final legislative session.

He will also step down as Chair of the New Castle County Democratic Committee. He will leave somewhere around August 1.

While losing Erik is a huge loss indeed, he leaves with the satisfaction of knowing that he did the job he was hired to do, and did it more effectively than even his bosses likely imagined. One cannot overstate how much Erik meant in bringing the House D Caucus from the basement into firm control of the House of Representatives. And he capped off his tenure by firmly guiding the redistricting process that should keep the House in D hands for the next decade. In other words, his job here was done.

Any Democrat who has been paying attention knows just how invaluable Erik has been, and many know how invaluable he has been in effectively working for progressive causes as well.

He was my boss for about two years, and you simply couldn’t find a better guy to work with. Very nice, very helpful, very approachable, and very effective. Any Democrat who knows Erik knows that he is a nice guy and has his head screwed on straight, which makes his decision to leave the political arena even easier to understand. Cat herding gets old after awhile.

I’m really looking forward to seeing what Erik does next. Whatever it is, I know that he will challenge himself, and that he’ll do something worthwhile.

Erik, I’ve always considered you a friend. I wish you nothing but success as you move forward. I’ll be rooting for you.

    Steve,

Thanks for the kind post. It’s been an honor and privilege to serve the House and the Delaware Democratic Party. My success has always been a simple equation given to me by my parents— work hard, do what you believe in and don’t stop until you get the job done. It’s now time to move back into the world of fighting poverty and promoting literacy, what I left home to do 10 years ago.

    Thanks again Steve, talk soon!

    Erik

  7. What are you doing up so early? Are they still in session or something?

  8. Bill Dunn says:

Erik, Your help and work has been greatly appreciated. I believe your ability to champion the causes you wish to strive for, would benefit just as much if you stayed on at the House, but respecting your judgment, I understand your decision.
Please stay local if you can and help us with your experience and knowledge.
