While their poll sample is suspect (in that it has 51% of the sample identified as Independants, as opposed to 30D and 12R), the Western New England University Poll has Elizabeth Warren up 8 points since their last poll and Scott Brown down 4, so now he only leads her 47 to 42. Meanwhile, she raised $3.15 million in the reporting period ending September 30. Which is impressive considering she announced her candidacy on September 13.

This is exactly the plot for Terminator 3: The Rise of the Machines.

A computer virus has infected the cockpits of America’s Predator and Reaper drones, logging pilots’ every keystroke as they remotely fly missions over Afghanistan and other warzones. … The virus, first detected nearly two weeks ago by the military’s Host-Based Security System, has not prevented pilots at Creech Air Force Base in Nevada from flying their missions overseas. Nor have there been any confirmed incidents of classified information being lost or sent to an outside source. But the virus has resisted multiple efforts to remove it from Creech’s computers, network security specialists say. And the infection underscores the ongoing security risks in what has become the U.S. military’s most important weapons system.

Skynet is self aware.

Meanwhile, are we really in a great era of peace? The chart says so:

Steven Pinker has some thoughts.

i think it would be disingenuous to not note that one of the reasons battle deaths have gone down is because our surviving wounded has gone up with better medical care. People are surviving with injuries in the current war that would have been a death sentence in 1914 or 1944. Also the way we fight has changed, there haven’t been any trenches charged or beaches stormed recently if i remember correctly.

James Van Houten, who had his head handed to him last year by Valerie Longhurst (after he was exposed for padding his resume with a few falsehoods over his military service) told the Sussex Confederate Party last night that he is running for IC.

  3. Geezer says:

Are “collateral” deaths of civilians, as in bombing campaigns, included in the counts?

These people are off their rockers. Seriously. It’s bad enough that the Boy Scouts can discriminate against gay people without having to make up this shit about the Muslim Brotherhood infiltrating the group.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie will endorse Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney at an event today thereby bringing Romney’s NJ base of support to two people.

The amazing Charlie Pierce is now writing a blog for Esquire, which is going on my newsreader immediately. He writes about Herman Cain (responding to an article in The Hill that somehow Cain flips the GOP script on race):

Republicans made a conscious choice to abandon the traditions that began with Lincoln and produced Edward Brooke in order to profit politically from the backlash against the accomplishments of the civil-rights movement and the remnants of white-supremacy, especially in the South. This wasn’t an accident. It was a shrewd — if amoral — calculation. That is how black voters came to be attached to the Democratic party; hell, it’s why Martin Luther King, Sr. stopped being a Republican. If you think that party is willing to surrender 50 years of profitable bigotry for the political phenomenon that is Herman Cain, well, you should take it up with the future of the GOP, Congressman J.C. Watts, or former chairman Michael Steele, who also represented the new multiracial party for a while. I also wish you luck with your beanstalk.

    Right on.

It would be nice if Alan Ludell would tell the whole story on his news program. At 1:30am in Boston VETERANS were arrested! Yes, our vets who served in these imperialist wars were in Boston peacefully protesting when the goons came in. Now, why didnt the reporter Alan had on, report that little fact…damn the corporate owned media.

Right to work Committee a right wing union hating group out with a new video depicting union men are thugs and violent. They are throwing the kitchen sink at this movement…they are terrified of us.
