The “Lord’s Resistance Army” Sounds Like Something Teabag Republicans Would Approve Of
President Obama just announced that we are sending about 100 U.S. troops to Africa to help hunt down the leader of the Lord’s Resistance Army. The Wikipedia article on the Lord’s Resistance Army says that the group is based on apocalyptic Protestant Christianity. It is led by Joseph Kony, who proclaims himself the “spokesperson” of God sent to earth to establish a theocratic state based on the Ten Commandments. Sound familiar?
The LRA is accused of widespread human rights violations, including murder, abduction, mutilation, sexual enslavement of women and children and forcing children to participate in hostilities.
But, you know… God told them, so….
Friday Open Thread [10.14.11]
A new Economist/YouGov poll finds Herman Cain leading the Republican presidential field with 33%, followed by Mitt Romney at 18%, Rick Perry at 10%, Newt Gingrich at 9%, Ron Paul at 7%, Jon Huntsman at 4% and Michele Bachmann at 3%. I am still just stunned. Racist teabaggers hate Romney so much that they are going to vote for a black man. I just love it. Meanwhile, John McCain is bad at math…. and lying.
Dover Councilman Committed to Offensive Material
As a private citizen, David Andersen can be as determined to be offensive as he wants to be. As a Representative of the City of Dover, I would think that Andersen could rethink this position.
“The piece trivializes the Holocaust. It draws inappropriate comparisons that offend the sensibilities of Holocaust survivors and those who appreciate the gravity of one of the most tragic episodes in human history,” read the letter to Anderson, signed by ADL regional director Barry Morrison.
Anderson maintains that the video, posted Sept. 20 by site contributor Fay Voshell of Wilmington, has nothing to do with the Holocaust.
Cohen Makes Flirty Eyes at Kovach
In her most recent blog post, Cohen gets wistful over the good old days when imagining a Kovach vs. KWS match-up.
Stewart’s woes could be an opening, especially for someone like Kovach. In a state known for its middle-of-the-road politics, he is a moderate Republican in the mode of Mike Castle.
In Search of “Delaware Style” Clam Chowder
There is not such thing as Delaware Style clam chowder. That’s the point. There should be. Delaware needs a cultural identity beyond being the “Usury State.” (Thanks Carper, you f*cker!) With our proximity to New Jersey, we are in danger of being culturally dominated by hair gel abusing douche-bags. Also, did you know what visitors to this state are greeted with when they stop at the new I-95 rest area? Crabs. Crabs! Like we are some kind of ersatz Maryland. F*ck that! To get the ball rolling, here are some things we need to have our own cultural identity. Click through….
