Progressive Planner: The Week Ahead

Filed in National by on November 2, 2011

Here is the calendar of events for the rest of the this week and next. I would like to especially highlight tonight’s Progressive Democrats for Delaware’s meeting and this weekend’s commencement of Occupy Delaware. I have also highlighted Mitch Crane’s fundraiser, as I think it is important that we support him early and often. But it is also important for progressives to go to RD meetings. That is where you, as a Progressive, can be most effective in both shaping your state party and your state government.

Wednesday, November 2nd/b>

19 E Commons Blvd, 2nd Floor, New Castle, DE

The regular monthly meeting of PDD will be held November 2 at 7 p.m., at the Democratic Party headquarters in New Castle, located at 19 E. Commons Blvd. This month we will be discussing the most effective methods of both lobbying legislators and getting a message out to the media. We hope to have someone from the News Journal there, as well as John Flaherty of the Delaware Coalition for Open Government, and perhaps others to speak on their experience and their thoughts on the most effective ways to lobby for our positions.

    Friday, November 4th

Chris Coons and someone from CRI at a panel discussion on Social Security (unfortunately not at the same time) at UD.

    http://www.delawarefirst.org/social-security-forum

Sign up now if you want seats; otherwise it will be livestreamed starting at 1:00 pm at dfmnews.org.

I think this will be very interesting and there should be as many eyes on it as possible. Remember, Chris Coons recently told us:

Democrats must be willing to accept “principled compromises” with Republicans on issues of taxes and health care programs for the poor and retirees in order to “save and sustain the core progressive programs” that have been implemented since the New Deal

    and

“We frankly need to be willing to negotiate some responsible changes in terms of future beneficiaries – you know folks frankly who are under 40,” Coons said.

I’ll be watching to see if Coons is speaking out for the 1% or the 99%.

Cassandra, I’ll see you there! I hope that everyone comes out to this event on Tuesday. Delaware deserves a better Insurance Commissioner.
