    Occupy Newt!

Monday, [Ron] Paul released a new web ad online attacking Newt Gingrich as a profiteer taking in huge sums of cash during his political career. The 2-minute ad is basically a montage of Newt talking about making money and pundits recounting the myriad lobbying, consulting, and speaking fees Newt has accumulated…

If Ron Paul really wants to mess with Newt, he’ll run as an independent.

Hillary schools Obama on how to deal with hostage-taking Republicans:

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. State Department said on Monday that any effort by Congress to impose a deadline on the Canada-to-Texas Keystone XL pipeline decision would effectively rule out a permit for the project.

“Should Congress impose an arbitrary deadline for the permit decision … the Department would be unable to make a determination to issue a permit for this project,” the Department said in a statement.

  4. jason330 says:

Makes as much sense as any Gingrich theory I’ve heard. I wonder after yesterday is Newt is headed for the same kind of flame out that consumed all thew other notRomneys?

Be careful what you wish for. Remember Reagan

  6. socialistic ben says:

It’s a possibility. No one thought that idiot son of an asshole would ever be president.
Im interested (by that i mean kind of afraid) of the voter suppression going on in states like SC where Obama LEADS currently. He would need a 7+ poll lead to overcome the republican trickery.
There is already talk of massive Occupy actions during the DNconvention…. im hoping they give some of their focus to voter registration and education.

  7. puck says:

It is tempting to think of Gingrich as a clown, but on this proposal he is deadly serious, and every bit as smart as they say he is (the evil kind of smart). This is a dangerous and well-targeted attack on the 99% to benefit the 1%:

The Federal Reserve has two tasks under the law: to keep inflation low, and to achieve maximum employment. Gingrich wants to end that “dual mandate,” so that the central bank would focus solely on inflation.

  8. puck says:

Wait for FOX to begin planting the alterna-history that Newt saved the economy from Democrats and created the prosperity of the 1990s. It’ll probably stick, enough to turn it into an actual he said/she said debate question during the general election. Start gathering your research now if you plan to argue with wingnuts on this…

  9. socialistic ben says:

what do you mean? the gop DID save the economy in the 90s. by forcing clinton to end the welfare queens! The president only takes credit. the REAL work is done in congress… by the house speaker. in the 90s, that was speaker Gingrich. While Clinton was busy committing adultery… which he never asked forgiveness on national TV for, Newt was saving the country. That damn democrat controlled congress at the end of Bush’s term put us in the mess we are in now.

hmh…. its kind of easy to be Frank Luntz

  10. puck says:

Bill Clinton is devastatingly effective at rebutting that argument. I hope he is in top form for the campaign.

    conventional wisdom, meet window.
On the one hand, I think FOX news might actually work to America’s advantage. They have conditioned their viewers… much like state media in a place like North Korea… to believe a false reality. The problem with that is, when what they have gotten their followers to believe is unacceptable for most people, the party the schil for is in trouble. In order to win the nomination, the candidate must pass the RW media test. it is a nice little catch-22 they have created for themselves. it could get a president re-elected with 8+ unemployment.
on the other head (said in my best Zero Mostel voice) the RW media will be in full sheep’s clothing with endless money on every station. Im really dreading this election. the RW wants to play dirty. they want to have a mean spirited fight and they arent even trying to hide it. It’s why they are picking Newt.

  12. socialistic ben says:

Puck, i think Obama is going to try and paint Newt as a career politician and all that…. bringing back another old adulterous career politician to rebuff him might not send the right message. To be sure, Clinton is good at it, but you have to think like slimeball repuke strategists. remember, elections are not about facts or truth. They are about who looks best at the pageant. and who has the better Zingers. It’s 1 part American Idol, 1 part pro wrestling.

  13. puck says:

bringing back another old adulterous career politician to rebuff him might not send the right message.

    That’s what Al Gore said.

  14. socialistic ben says:

    Al Gore won that election

  15. jason330 says:

I agree with SB that the Republicans want to play dirty and have a mean spirited fight. I don’t think that there as many voters down for that as they think there are. Even with the 8+ unemployment.

Newt knows that so he will air a bunch of clunky awkwardly bright and optimistic TV spots, but the campaign in the trenches will be a horror show.

  16. socialistic ben says:

I dont REALLY think there are enough RWNJs to vite Newt in to office. I HOPE there arent JUST enough of them to not raise many alarms when Newt “pulls off a last minute victory because 4000 votes were found in Ohio” They have already actively engaged in race-based voter suppression. outright Deibold-aided fraud isnt too much further…. hell, they have already done it.
Disclaimer…. Wild Ass Theory not to be taken as my actually beliefs…. mmkay?
… It could even be that Fox want’s Obama to get a second term.. their ratings might go down if “all is well” They NEED the Evil Kenyan…. could that be why they are helping Newty so much?

  17. puck says:

    It’s on:

Yesterday, Newt Gingrich rejected Mitt Romney’s demand that he return the $1.6 million he “earned” as Freddie Mac’s top “housing historian” by challenging Romney to return all the money he made at Bain Capital “bankrupting companies and laying employees off.”

The reaction from establishment pundits was predictable: The Washington Post’s Jennifer Rubin defended Romney by saying Gingrich’s comments sounded like something an Occupy Wall Street protester would say and revealed his “anti-free market self.” The Weekly Standard’s Fred Barnes said Newt Gingrich was attacking Romney “from the left.” And on Fox, Charles Krauthammer said Gingrich’s slam was “what you would expect from a socialist.”

  18. socialistic ben says:

Could it be that the conservatives caught the “snatch defeat from the jaws of victory” bug? Im REALLY REALLY REALLY trying to be pessimistic about this. it isnt going to well.

  19. jason330 says:

I’m where you are. There is going to be a massive shortage of popcorn in this country before it is all over. Newt and Romney look like they will kill each other before they’d let the other have the nomination.
