“If I don’t win the primary Saturday, we will probably nominate a moderate. And the odds are fairly high he will lose to Obama.”
Newton Leroy Gingrich is headed for a massive blowout win in Iowa South Carolina. In last night’s polling, PPP had Gingrich racing away at 40%, with Romney stuck at 26%. In their final three day sample, the PPP poll has Gingrich leading with 37%, followed by Mitt Romney at 28%, Rick Santorum at 16% and Ron Paul at 14%. So you can see the obvious trend. I would not be surprised if Gingrich gets well above 45% tonight. If he gets a majority, then the GOP primary will be rocked to its core.
Florida is a week from Tuesday. If Romney loses that badly tonight, will he collapse in Florida? And if he loses Florida, how can Mitt Romney recover?
Here are some other recent GOP primary polls:
SOUTH CAROLINA (YouGov): Gingrich 33, Romney 29, Paul 18,, Santorum 16
NATIONAL (Gallup Tracking): Romney 30, Gingrich 20, Paul 13, Santorum 13
SOUTH CAROLINA (Clemson Univ): Gingrich 32, Romney 26, Paul 11, Santorum 9
SOUTH CAROLINA (We Ask America): Gingrich 32, Romney 28, Paul 13, Santorum 9
And here is a stunning video of Moscow in 2011. Your mental image of Moscow is probably drab and dreary, or a frigid Red Square, a colorless city. No more.

The President is a funny guy.
When is comes to D’s v. R’s I’m a pessimist (owing to the shit-ass performance of Democrats over the past 20 years when facing off against the idiotic losers known as Republicans).
And yet, if the R’s pick Newt, I can’t think of a single scenario in which he beats Obama.
Catholic leaders call out Newt and the sweater vest guy for spreading ugly racial stereotypes.
One nice thing about us Catholics we know the difference between right and wrong we just often choose poorly . This group got it right:)

Did they find those missing eight precincts? 🙂
DD, can you correct the opening line, from Iowa to SC?
Fixed.

The only way Gingrich or Romney wins is if the economy collapses again. It’s not out of the realm of possibility but there have been some good signs recently of recovery. I hope it lasts.
BTW, after Florida, the next few contests look very pro-Romney: Maine, Michigan and Nevada.
When Santorum drops out, Romney might be in real trouble if most of his support goes to Gingrich. My gut feeling is that Santorum dislikes Gingrich more than Romney, so would endorse Romney.
A few republican friends expressed disappointment in the field/front runners. While they were (hoping against hope) holding out hope for a convention deal (Christie was the name put forward) I don’t see a lot of top-of-ticket energy this November for many Republicans
“My gut feeling is that Santorum dislikes Gingrich more than Romney, so would endorse Romney.”
He can’t. It would cost him dearly.

Sorry for the Iowa typo. Don’t know what I was thinking there.
Joe Paterno has died. He was 85.
