The Good Ones Always Leave Us.

Filed in National by on February 8, 2012

First Ginger Gibson left our fine state for the Star Ledger up north, and then onto Politico. Who can forget her stellar reporting on Christine O’Donnell and her race against Mike Castle? Now Chad Livengood, who has taken Ginger’s place as the premiere political reporter in the First State, is leaving the News Journal for the Detroit News, where he will be covering Republican Governor Rick Synder in Lansing. I am sure Governor Synder is going to wish Chad stayed back east.

On behalf of everyone at Delaware Liberal, I want to wish Chad and his wife the best of luck on their new adventure in Michigan, and thank him for all of his hard work during his time in the First State.

Sheesh. We are below Newark New Jersey and Detroit. What is Delaware on the reporter food chain? Plankton? What do plankton eat?

Many thanks to Chad for his work here. He had a lot of energy in taking a look at the goings on in Dover and NCCo and worked at old school journalism — holding the powerful accountable. The people of Michigan are lucky to have him.

  3. I think plankton eat smaller plankton. Which raises the question, “What do the absolutely smallest plankton eat?” My guess: They’re born, they’re eaten.

Sorry to see Chadd go. He’s done an admirable job of exposing some seedy characters in Delaware politics. I sure hope leaves his notes behind for someone to continue the probe. Our loss is Michigan’s gain! All the best to you, Chadd!

Yeah, Chad had just started to develop reasonably good sources. For a while Copeland had his ear and colored all of the articles. Now I feel like he had dug up his own sources and was leveraging them well.

Good luck in Motor City, Chad.

Oh Chad, so sorry to hear your leaving. Chad your work here was only beginning, you will be missed.

  7. Another Mike says:

Chad is a Central Michigan U. grad who started his news career in Michigan. So not only is Detroit a step up in circulation, it is a move home. Good luck to him.

  8. It’s great for Chad, and terrible for us.

Nobody has done better work exposing the Delaware Way than Chad. The unseemly relationships, the big $$ jobs that magically find our elected officials, the lax ethical standards, the failure of public officials to protect the public, the failure of public officials to investigate corrupt public officials.

His work here was award-worthy. I worry that, with his absence, the Tony DeLucas of this world will return to pursuing their own personal gain with impunity, while thumbing their collective noses at the law and at the public. I sure hope I’m wrong. But reporters like Chad Livengood don’t come along often.

Best wishes, Chad. I know we’ll be seeing your byline in print and on the web for a good long time. Keep fighting the good fight.

  9. Chad will be missed, that’s for sure. Best wishes to him and his wife. Hopefully it means we can get a new young and hungry up-and-comer here.
