The Iron Lady

Filed in National by on April 24, 2012

There is no doubt that Margret Thatcher was a pretty horrible person. She was English(strike one). She popularized the economic radicalism which our economy is still suffering under today (strike two), and she was a shitty mother (strike three).

Nevertheless, she was an effective leader for the British Conservative Party who brought them back from utter irrelevancy. The way she did is a worthwhile study for Democrats who like the x’s and o’s of political strategy.

Sorry that this isn’t a full blown post. If someone wants to finish it in the comments section for me, I’ll be your best friend.

I didn’t see the movie yet.

  2. nemski says:

Oh, I thought this was another Julia Child movie where she goes to England and creates a smash TV show called, “The Iron Lady”.

  3. reis says:

No, Julia was smashed on the shows.

  4. jason330 says:

Speaking of SMASH! That show is awesome.

  5. nemski says:

    Does it star Meryl Streep?

  6. auntie dem says:

I thought Streep did her best to save this from being the most boring movie ever. Unfortunately she only partially succeeded. After the first 20 minutes of conservative drivel it just got too much for me. Fortunately I watched it On-Demand so I only had to clicky-click to escape.

  7. jason330 says:

Mrs. Liberal says that she failed outright. You are right about the conservative drivel, they laid it on with a drivel ladle.

  8. Cassandra M says:

Streep’s performance was the only good thing about this mess of a film. How you do a bio of Thatcher without seriously dealing with Thatcherism was just dishonest. As was the weird framing of old Maggie dealing with her husband’s ghost.

  9. Jason330 says:

“The Iron Lady’s Husband’s Ghost” is a movie that would have been interesting.

hey – I had to live under her rule -it was nooooo picnic

talk about losing your rights – and the horrible things done in the name of National Security..Now that the records have been released 30 years later all the dirty laundry is out there

    and its DIRTY!!

Oh wait – that sounds familiar – I thing the SHRUB took a few pages out of her play book after 911

Hmmm and he called the Patriot Act….

    interesting

I have absolutely no interest in the movie even though Streep is a tremendous actress. Watching a movie about Thatcher is like deliberating making yourself sick to the stomach.

She can’t help being English, she was born that way.
