Mayor Cory Booker to Headline Jeff/Jax

Filed in National by on May 25, 2012

Was this the big announcement yesterday? Cory Booker? I guess Anthony Wiener wasn’t available to take a crap on the President’s re-election messaging.

  1. Delaware Dem says:

You would have thought that Papa Joe Biden would have been available for a Jeff/Jax dinner in his own state in an election year.

  2. auntie dem says:

    DD,
There’s no doubt that Vice President Biden would like to be at the JJ, but as he says, he’s got a boss. And that boss has plans for his time. Beyond that, it is wildly expensive to cover the secret service costs of his appearances. As much as we’d love him to come, and we would, it just gets a bit expensive for tiny Delaware.

  3. Delaware Dem says:

No doubt, tiny Delaware is now above his pay grade. There are more important swing state appearances and fundraisers to go to. I get that. But I don’t think the Secret Service aspect is an excuse. We have had President Bill Clinton at one of these dinners before. Further, does the DDP have to pay for the Secret Service? I didn’t think that was the case.

As for Cory Booker, I will boo and heckle him, loudly, at the dinner, if he does not offer anything less than his wholehearted support of the Democratic ticket.

  4. John Manifold says:

Joe did the J-J dinner at D-D in ’08.

He speaks here often, most recently at John Walsh’s induction into the sports hall of fame last week [in that case w/ no advance publicity].

He also did the J-J dinner when he was running for president in ’07 and ’87.

  5. Delaware Dem says:

Yes, I believe that was before he was both Vice President or even a candidate for Vice President. He did not have SS protection when he was running for President because, well, they don’t do that for someone not polling about 5% in Iowa. Not to be unkind or anything.

  6. SussexWatcher says:

Everyone’s seen Joe before. That’s a yawner. Booker’s a rising star – people will come out to hear him (if only to heckle). Good choice.

  7. Andy says:

Lousy Choice but fits the Carper Coons etc mold

  8. cassandra m says:

VP Biden will be here on June 14th to kick off the Beau Biden Seminars, apparently a continuation of the Senator Biden’s Seminars. At the Chase Center.

  9. Valentine says:

I think it is a lousy choice after what he said. I will not be attending.

  10. Rusty Dils says:

“I think it is a lousy choice after what he said.”

You have to understand now that the message is becoming increasingly clear that a lot of Democrats know Obama is going down, and they don’t want to go down with him. Many democrats are starting to publicly speak out against the Presidents actions and Policies. They simply don’t agree with him, and they now are starting to see an urgent need to seperate themselves from the President, especially if they themselves want to stay in office.

  11. Geezer says:

Rusty: Sorry to have to point out that you’re a moron, but the reason those Dems are coming out against his attacks on Bain is that they’re hip-deep in donations from Wall Street firms. This is the result of Bill Clinton becoming a “new Democrat,” or a “Lite Republican.”

What you see is the result of neither party being able to legitimately claim the mantle of populism.

  12. Rusty dils says:

Geezer, plus they actually dis agree with the President. And are deciding to be honest about it.

  13. Geezer says:

Rusty: You’re too naive to follow politics. They disagree with the president because they’re corporatists. I love how whenever someone agrees with you, they’re “being honest.”

If you’re going to follow politics as a sport, Rusty, you should learn to be skeptical of everything all politicians say. Even those you think you agree with.

  14. SussexAnon says:

“If you’re going to follow politics as a sport, Rusty, you should learn to be skeptical of everything all politicians say. Even those you think you agree with.”

THAT is the lesson of the day.

  15. Rusty Dils says:

Geezer, sorry to show my ignorance, but what is your definition of a
    “corporatist”

  16. Geezer says:

@Rusty: Someone who accepts donations from and works to further the interests of corporate America.

Bill Clinton’s “third way” was the remaking of the Democratic Party to woo corporate donations because union and trial-lawyer money couldn’t compete with the throw-weight of corporate America.

Clinton’s morals would make a snake seem like Mother Theresa, but he was smart and calculating. He decided that the best target for corporate funding of Democrats was the financial industry. Though many rich people are default Republicans, Wall Street people live in the more liberal Northeast, they have shit-tons of money and — as their hissy fits about being called fat cats illustrates — have the fragile egos of 15-year-old girls, making them a perfect audience for a high-ranking politician (a president, no less!) blowing smoke up their asses.

As a result, we now live in a country where the mainstream Democrats represent the center-left to center-right, Republicans represent the right-wing fringe, and nobody represents either the just-left-of-center or the left-wing fringe.

  17. Valentine says:

Well put, Geezer. I am so sick of people saying the parties are on the two extremes of the ideological spectrum and we need something in the middle. We have a party in the middle. It’s called the Democratic party.

I wonder if anyone is going to skip the J-J because of the Booker booking.

  18. Geezer says:

“We have a party in the middle. It’s called the Democratic party.”

Well said. And, for good or ill, the Democratic Party would consider that a compliment.
