Wednesday Open Thread [5.23.12]

Hawaii has verified that the President was born in Hawaii, and, perhaps simultaneously, Arizona’s Secretary of State has backed away from his previous birther statement and apologized for embarrassing his own state with a conspiracy theory-fueled investigation into whether the president was really a natural born U.S. citizen.

50 Shades Of Agony

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on May 23, 2012 15 Comments

It’s rare that I don’t finish a book, but I just couldn’t make it through the latest sensation 50 Shades of Grey.

Before I get into my review of a book I didn’t finish, let me tell you that I’m a sucker for a good, steamy romance.  After a day of pouring over political articles and listening to pundits I love to be swept away in romantic fantasy.  There.  That’s my confession… and guilty pleasure.

Moving on… I heard about the book from my mother (who hasn’t read it, but had heard about the hoopla) who knew I indulged in the genre.  Out of curiosity I downloaded the book to my Kindle.   I tried to read it, and in my defense I don’t expect romance novels to be great literature, but… Oh. My. God.  What I read of this book was terrible.  Poorly written, poorly edited, and with a heroine no one but Twilight fans could relate to.

Polling Report [5.23.12]

Florida moves into the Lean Romney camp, while Pennsylvania stays in the Lean Obama camp. North Carolina stays as a toss up state, despite the number of Romney ads Jason is seeing in North Carolina right now.

Christine O’Donnell to Run in 2014 [Prayers Answered]

Filed in National by on May 23, 2012 12 Comments

Alternative title: Wow, this Jonathan Moseley guy really sounds like a creepy obsessive stalking guy…. but that is if I only believe Christine O’Donnell’s side of the story and what the hell I am doing believing Christine O’Donnell’s side of the story?

Did McDowell & Williams Go Rogue?

Filed in National by on May 23, 2012 21 Comments

Signs point to ‘yes’. On the first day of budget mark-up by the Joint Finance Committee, co-chairs Sen. Harris McDowell and Rep. Dennis P. Williams unveiled a proposed 2% pay hike for state employees. Trouble is that they apparently did not give anyone a ‘heads-up’ on the move. By ‘anyone’, I mean  the Markell Administration […]

David Anderson is an evil Socialist Conspirator.

Filed in Delaware, National by on May 23, 2012 11 Comments

I cannot wait until the showdown between Crazy Eileen and David Anderson. First Mr. Anderson claims birtherism is a distraction and that the President was born in the U.S. Then he blames Obama for birtherism because, well…. I don’t know.

Carney speaks at a 9th grade level – Coons speaks at a 13th grade level – Carper speaks at a 9th grade level

Filed in Delaware by on May 22, 2012 9 Comments

Fairly predicable. Coons is the erudite egghead in the bunch. Carney knows enough words to give a good pep talk to a JV football team and after 80 years in politics, Carper naturally speaks down to everyone. These are the findings of Sunlight Labs which crunched the numbers. Among their macro-findings, Congress talk more dumb this year.

Tuesday Open Thread [5.22.12]

Filed in Open Thread by on May 22, 2012 6 Comments

Former Philadelphia Phillie and Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling in recent years became a very public champion of conservative “small-government” politics. How ironic is it that then that when he launched a video game production company that two years ago set up shop in Rhode Island thanks to $75 million in state guaranteed loans. The least Schilling could have done then was thank the government rather bloviate about how government was evil.

Well, two years later, because Schilling sucks as a businesman, his business isn’t going so well, and this month Schilling’s company 38 Studios missed a $1.1 million payment to the state. He’s now asking for more taxpayer help.

Oh, the irony.

Polling Report [5.22.12]

A new poll out of Texas keeps the state colored light red, as in Lean Romney. It shouldn’t be as surprising as you think it is. Further along in this post, we will discuss Texas’ future as a swing state (yes, it is coming). But not this year, as Texas will be won by Romney, no doubt about that.
