Harry Reid accuses GOP House of deliberately sabotaging the economy for politcal gain

Filed in National by on June 6, 2012

It is about goddamn time.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) accused House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) of deliberately sabotaging the economy for partisan gain.

“You have heard, as I’ve heard, that there’s a battle going on between Cantor and [House Speaker John] Boehner as to whether or not there should be a [highway] bill,” Reid told reporters. “Cantor, of course — I’m told by others that he wants to not do a bill to make the economy worse, because he feels that’s better for them. I hope that’s not true.”

Since Republicans have admitted to this, I think the only controversial item here is that it has taken Harry Reid so long to utter this out loud.

Reid’s remarks were nominally about the highway bill that passed the Senate in March on an unusually bipartisan vote of 77-24, seeking to keep alive major transportation projects. But House Republicans have refused to accept it, and forced a short-term, scaled back measure that expires at the end of June. Disputes have since lingered on how to proceed.

Reid reminded reporters Tuesday that “millions of jobs” are at stake.

Dick Polman over at Newsworks weighed in on The Misery Strategy as deployed by the GOP.

He’s right, of course, as is Harry Reid. More Ds need to make this case, though, because the news media is certainly going to ignore this as long as they can get away with it.

Remember two weeks ago when ZERO Democrats in the House and Senate voted for Obama’s budget? I think the Democrats are deliberately sabotaging the economy for political gain.

  3. Boris says:

    Republicans admitted to this?

  4. Jason330 says:

Yea. Numerous patrotic GOP leaders including GOP thought leader Rush Limbaigh have admitted that a weak economy helps them in the election and that they would be working to damage the economy. Limbaugh flatly stated that he wanted Obama’s efforts to repair the Bush economic disaster to fail. Harry Reid isn’t breaking any news here.

  5. Reid had the chance to change the rules last January so that the Senate wouldn’t have to eat minority rule time after time via the “you don’t actually have to stand there all night” filibuster.

He is a lot of hot air.
