Delaware Democratic Convention Open Thread
The convention is taking place right now in Dover. The convention has already brought us some the surprising news of Mitch Crane’s endorsement. The rest of the convention will be devoted to selecting delegates to the National Convention in Charlotte later this summer. Then tonight, the Jeffereson-Jackson Dinner will be held, with Newark Mayor Cory Booker giving the keynote speech.

The News Just Got Bigger: Mitch Crane Endorsed by the Del Dems.
The Delaware Democratic Party has endorsed former judge Mitch Crane in the Democratic Primary for Insurance Commissioner. This endorsement is as important for the Crane campaign as it is monumentally devastating to incumbent Karen Weldin Stewart. Indeed, has a Democratic incumbent not been endorsed for reelection by his or her own party? I can’t recall it happening in my politically aware lifetime.
PDD President Paul Baumbach files for the 23rd RD.
the race is definitely on to replace her on the Democratic side at least. Paul Baumbach, the President of the Progressive Democrats for Delaware, announced his candidacy here on Delaware Liberal, and officially filed. Jerry Grant has also filed, thus, progressives have a genuine win-win situation here, and a golden opportunity for the rare of rarities: a positive campaign about ideas.
Mitch Crane is Endorsed by NCCo. Democrats [That’s a Big Fracking Deal]
The New Castle County Democratic Party yesterday announced its endorsement of Mitch Crane in the Democratic Primary for Insurance Commissioner. This is a surprise to me, as I had heard that Karen might have had some support among their ranks. At best, I expected a non-endorsement.
Have a Great Weekend Everybody
Be sure to check out the radio show “International Waters.” That’s it. I’m just feeling really good and sincerely hoping that everyone has a great weekend. Very Pollyanna-ish of me I know, but there it is.
Senate Dems McCaskill & Nelson support extending tax cuts for the rich – can Carper be far behind?
Claire McCaskill and Bill Nelson typically make headlines when they side with the Republicans. For whatever reason, they allow Tom Carper (who is never in danger of being defeated by a Republican challenger) to trail behind and obsequiously serve the 1% in a much lower profile capacity.
Delaware Political Weekly: June 2-8, 2012
She richly deserves one. She is the primary sponsor of the Delmarva Power special interest legislation that would literally make the powerless powerless. Whether James D. Burton of Caravel Hunt is a legit challenger is open to question. Couldn’t turn up anything on the Google, so, spies, I turn to you. Anyone know anything about this guy? Anyway, both Longhurst and Burton filed since our last report, and will face off in the D primary in September.
HUGE BREAKING NEWS: Terry Schooley to Retire
Representative Terry Schooley (D-23rd) has announced in an email to her RD Committee that she is not seeking reelection.
Sheriff Christopher sure is a whiner.
We just received a letter from an anonymous tipster that insane teabagger Sheriff Jeff Christopher has sent to “Delaware State Attorneys” and “Delaware State Court and Justices.” I really do wonder if Sheriff Christopher has sent this letter to all attorneys in the State of Delaware, as there is no “Delaware State Attorneys” office. I suppose he meant this letter to go to the Attorney General’s office. I also wonder if every employee of the the state judicial system and every Justice of the Delaware Supreme Court has received this letter.
In the letter, Christopher blasts them all for taking away his “power” and then complains to them that Sussex County Council (controlled by Republicans, mind you) has refused to replace two of his deputies due to budgetary concerns. He views the Council’s actions as an “attack on himself” due to his lawsuit to unconstitutionally expand his powers past that of being a process server in Sussex County.
