Saturday Open Thread [7.14.12]

Filed in Open Thread by on July 14, 2012

It is a nice, rainy Saturday meaning that all of our plants get watered for free for a change. It is also a busy Saturday as pretty much everyone I know in the city is knocking on doors, looking for votes for candidates. And it’s Bastille Day! The closest great celebration of this is over at Fairmount Park at the Eastern Penitentiary, featuring a Marie Antoinette hauled off to the guillotine yelling, “Let them eat Tastycakes!” with thousands of Tastycakes launched off into the crowd. Fun!

While the Obama people are doing a great job keeping Rmoney off of his feet on the Bain business, one of the things I wish they were better at messaging is how unfocused this Congress is on real problems. See:

This is pretty powerful to me — time to make them pay for trying to legislate more Big Government, while avoiding the fact that Americans still need to work.

So what do you do if you are not getting much traction as a candidate for office? Recreate the government you are running for! This is from a candidate for US Senate in Iowa — taking bets as to when we see it here:

In a letter released Friday, Randi Shannon informs supporters of her new position as “U.S. Senator in the Republic of the United States of America.” You see, according to Shannon, the U.S. government has been acting unlawfully as the “‘official government,’ which clearly it is not!”

The libertarian-leaning group she joined claims it “re-inhabited” the government on March 30, 2010. The group claims the “United States Corporation” unlawfully formed in 1871 without the American people’s consent. “Since 1871, the abuses of this corporation upon both the international community as well as the American people are inestimable and unconscionable,” the group’s website claims.

Oy.

Martin O’Malley wages war for Obama

Sorry, gang it *is* Politico, but an interesting read.

We definitely needed the rain. Hadn’t had a drop in two weeks prior to today. Grass was getting brown.

Fan of the beach, not the tourons from PA, VA, MD and DC that come here and act stupid (and drive just as stupidly).

If you have 15 or 20 minutes, this is just a killer read about one of the most bizarrely dysfunctional and delusional power couples in Washington DC. He was 40 years her junior, gay, ginned up some credibility in pretty high political circles and killed his elderly wife.

Wow – Biden’s office just delivered an incredible ass-whooping to Dewey Beach over repeated FOIA problems: http://attorneygeneral.delaware.gov/office/opinions/2012/12-IIB9.pdf

You don’t see that type of language except when it’s a really huge, serious deal.

Yes, Delaware Dem, pretty grass is the most important thing when we’re in a drought. Thanks for reminding us of what really matters.
