Mitt Romney Is Going To Get Whiplash

Filed in National by on August 1, 2012

Via TPM:

On Sunday, Mitt Romney boldly declared that Israel’s economic superiority over the Palestinians was due to its culture.

On Tuesday morning, he dismissed any notion that he had even discussed Palestinian culture.

On Tuesday night, Romney reversed himself yet again, in an op-ed entitled “Culture Does Matter.”

Amazing.  Does this guy ever mean what he says?

He’s no more or less a liar than any other regular politician. He’s jsut so bad at it. I dont think he’s even all that smart. He’s like W without the folksy charm and (slight) redeeming appreciation of Chase Utley.

The comparison with W is apt. In addition to lacking in what some regarded as W’s folksy charm, Romney is also too willing to backtrack and apologize. W lived by the motto, “Never apologize, never explain” and it served him very well, because the media was ll too willing to keep moving on.

I think the Tuesday morning statement was a gaffe, which he tried to correct with the Tuesday night op-ed.

The Anglo-Saxon and culture comments had nothing to do with Britain or Israel. They were directed at the Tea Party/Conservatives.

    Anglo-Saxon heritage = I’m white, you’re white, Obama’s black

Culture = hard-working producers succeed, slackers and welfare queens don’t. Using Palestine as an example fit perfectly for him – Look at the spread sheet and ignore everything else – It really is the old “pull yourself up from your bootstraps” argument.

Mittens doesnt have boot- straps he has a butler instead to pull his boots off and on so how would he even know about boot- straps

However- he knows about silver spoons- he was born with one on his mouth….

  5. Romney is what one conservative talk radio host used to refer to as “the east end of a west-bound horse”.

However, he was right to some degree w/ his comments concerning Israeli success vs. Palestinian failure. It is partly due to culture. Jews support other Jews, all over the world. Mittens left out the part where Israel illegally settles “Palestinian” lands, restricts the ability of the Palestinians to be self-sufficient, etc.

The sad part is, the Arab/Muslim world does NOT support the Palestinians in any meaningful way. The Arab/Muslim world is much bigger and stronger than the Israeli/Jewish world. The Arabs could have steamrolled Israel in ’67 if they had united behind the Palestinians. They didn’t, they haven’t since, and they aren’t likely to do so in the future.
