Republicans are pissed off at Romney over the tax secrecy

Filed in National by on August 7, 2012

Romney is letting Obama pound him over the head with taxes, and that is vexing Republicans. A legion of Republican pundits have called for Romney to stop the blood letting, but Team Romney seems convinced that it can ride out the storm, or reboot the conversation by picking a blockbuster VP.

We’ll see. In the meantime, the most optimistic thing I’ve read coming from a Republican, doesn’t sound very optimistic about Romney winning this PR battle.

There’s some indication that the Romney campaign thinks they’ll be able to reboot and change the direction of this race with their VP pick. Maybe they will, but it’s also just as likely that naming a Vice-President will just mean that there will be one more person in the campaign who the press can ask about Romney’s tax returns. The first question, of course, will be to ask how many years of tax returns the VP pick turned over to Romney’s vetting team.
