Monday Open Thread [8.27.12]

With Isaac headed toward New Orleans, Republican National Convention officials are considering a number of worst-case scenarios including a quick roll call and a truncated speech by Mitt Romney, National Journal reports.

“Officials conceded on the record for the first time Monday that plans for an already shortened three-day convention were in doubt… A senior GOP official said no decision had been made and none was likely Monday, but said the convention conceivably could be as short as a single day.”

Other reports suggested the convention could be cancelled entirely. I’d imagine the Democratic convention, also already shortened to three days due to the Labor Day Weekend, may also take a hit if the damage from the storm is bad. And if that occurs, I wonder if we have already seen the last political convention ever…

    –one can hope.

Hey Cass I was sorry to hear about your broken ankle. I understand you did not know what happened. News flash it was the truth you tripped over last night on TV. Thank you for energizing the loyal merit system staff at the IC office by excoriating the good work they do every day with a series of total BS accusations. Cheers

JP, you’ve had ample opportunities to lay out the reasons (or even one reason) that Commissioner Stewart deserves reelection, yet have failed to do so. I understand your frustration with being part of a losing campaign, but please don’t take it out on Cassandra for speaking the truth.

  4. jpconnorjr says:

    I didn’t because she didn’t 🙂

  5. Idealist says:

You’ve never given a reason for why you believe Commissioner Stewart should be reelected because Commissioner Stewart can’t even give a reason for why she should be reelected. Got it.

  6. jpconnorjr says:

You post what you want and I will as well. Got it:)

The shame of it is that these merit employees needed to wait for me to be on TV before they could get any motivation. Which I’d bet they’d be delighted to hear you claim. But it is good to hear you admit that staff motivation certainly isn’t coming from their management.

I did nothing of the sort….. twist those words like you twisted your ankle….. 15 days ….tick tock

“And if that occurs, I wonder if we have already seen the last political convention ever…”

Don’t we wish? However, no one’s going to cancel an event where they all stand around and tell themselves how great they are.

  10. cassandra_m says:

Of course you did. But she’ll probably line up enough gigs when she’s out of office to keep you on the payroll for whatever it is you are on the payroll for.

  11. jpconnorjr says:

Or your guy will be wondering what he blew 75K on…… or perhaps more:) I love New York!

  12. cassandra_m says:

Just make sure you can afford it! You might want to see if you can get a raise for the next two weeks.

  13. jpconnorjr says:

Will be waiting for the 8 day….. receipts AND returns:) use a calculator before you post:)

  14. cassandra_m says:

The person getting paid is the one who should be using the calculator — hopefully using it to pay all of the right witholdings and so on. I’d offer to send you one of the many around here but they’re probably more horsepower than you could handle.

  15. jpconnorjr says:

    gas powered calculator….. that’s so 19th Century…… just sayin’ 1500 =1200 = ????? Guess it’s the way it’s done in the Big Apple:)

  16. cassandra_m says:

So now you’re just being stupid. Everyone knows that the last calculator you were proficient in was an abacus. Even the 19th century would represent a Big Leap Forward for you. Would even leave you more time to cash your checks.

rage point #1: see it’s like rape because of how it affected HIM. HIS pain and HIS difficulty HIS shame dealing with his daughter having a baby without being married was so hard it must be like if someone got raped. Because her pregnancy and her choices are totally about HIM.

rage point #2: if having an out of wedlock baby is really as bad to their family as helping her put her life back together after an assault, thank GOD he’s not my father.

    Selfish jerk.

  18. Rockland says:

    Katrina was Bush’s fault.

Obama will use Isaac to stimulate the economy through sales of plywood, batteries, bottled water, and generators.

  19. Piss off, Rockland.

Katrina wasn’t Bush’s fault. The hideously failed RESPONSE to Katrina was Bush’s fault.
