Can you find someone with a “Bacon Number” higher than 4?

Filed in National by on September 14, 2012

Good luck finding anyone with a bacon number greater than 2 when you leverage google’s new search by typing “bacon number” followed by the name of any actor.

I found one that is 4, but don’t want to give it away until others try this thing.

WARNING: 3 hours will race by, so if you have to pick up the kids from music lessons – DON’T TRY IT!

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been doing this for the last hour. I am trying to think of every actor I know, including long dead ones. The highest I have found is 3.

  2. Delaware Dem says:

    I found a 4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Jason330 says:

It is tough, I think 4 might be the upper limit. Mine made 1 movie in the 1950’s prior to becoming a TV celebrity.

  4. Delaware Dem says:

I found a second 4! You have to think outside the box. To find the upper limit you have to think of people who are not actors but have appeared in TV and movie shows.

  5. Jason330 says:

Evel Knievel’s Bacon number is 3

  6. nemski says:

@Jason – you are the devil

  7. chlorophil says:

It is very easy to find people with a bacon number of infinity, but i assume you dont want to count that.

  8. nemski says:

Yes!!! Hugo Chavez as a Bacon Number of 4.

  9. puck says:

This is really just the tip of their social mapping capability. If they can do this with Kevin Bacon, they can do it with you and any other person. No doubt the three-letter agencies already have this capability, but with data far beyond movie cast lists. They have phone calls, public photographs, banking records, EZ pass data, etc.

    What’s your terrorist number?

  10. chlorophil says:

    William Rufus Shafter

  11. V says:

True story: I baked a maple apple bacon pie last night. With a latice crust. Poor Kevin.

  12. puck says:

Hot Brazilian actress Mel Lisboa has a Bacon Number of 4. Don’t do an image search if you are at work.

  13. Jason330 says:

After his initial frowny face, Puck jumps in. Good on ya’

  14. Jason330 says:

    I protest this one:

John Lennon’s Bacon number is 2
John Lennon and Phil Collins appeared in A Hard Day’s Night.
Phil Collins and Kevin Bacon appeared in Balto.

Phil Collins was a kid running down a street in A Hard Days Night.

  15. cassandra_m says:

Rmoney does not have a bacon number, but Obama’s is 2.

  16. nemski says:

That’s because Rmoney won’t release his Bacon Number.

  17. Jason330 says:

    Nemski for the win!

  18. Cheyenne Arreola says:

Caroline Kennedy’s Bacon number is 5

  19. Jason330 says:

Cheyenne Arreola: current in first place with a Five spot.

  20. Linda says:

William Rufus Shafter is 7 . . . but don’t count me I found that by accident when I was trying to figure out what the heck you guys were doing LOL.

  21. Jason330 says:

I looked up Shaffer’s wikipedia page out of curiosity and thought this was humorous:

“Additionally, he is known for having a high “Bacon Index” of 7. He was known informally as “Pecos Bill”.[1]”

So 7 is the top limit (prior to infinity) , but I think 4, 5, 6 are exceedingly rare.

  22. Jason330 says:

    My 4 was Johnny Carson.

  23. GOT IT says:

    Sammy Sosa is a 5

  24. Nik says:

Not an actor, but since others are doing singers, Boy George doesn’t even come up with a Bacon number!

  25. chlorophil says:

Yours doesn’t count, Linda, because it came an entire hour after i had already posted it here.

  26. puck says:

There goes the nation’s productivity surge. Google may have just cost Obama the election.

  27. Kevin says:

    Igor Morozov 10

  28. Ken Weinkauf says:

I did it! Nancy Wilson, famous rock singer who also appeared in the following films: The Wild Life and Fast Times at Ridgemont High, has no Bacon Number!

Please don’t prove me wrong! I worked for three hours!

  29. jason330 says:

Sorry. Sean Penn was in mystic river.

  30. lola says:

justin bieber is the most famous celebrity with 4

  31. Anita Bath says:

Ken – I’m not necessarily proving you wrong, but I guess it’s a matter of how you define “degrees of Bacon.” I’ve noticed that this Google version only does movies, so unless “someone was in a movie with someone who was in a movie with…” you won’t get an answer. But I’ll bet Nancy (or Ann) is within 6 degrees of Bacon; probably closer than that. (I know my favorite classic rock DJ has met Ann and Nancy Wilson, so I can just call him on Monday morning and ask him HIS degree of Bacon.)

  32. Anita Bath says:

Just as an example of how I need to get a life – and how the Google version works as well…James Michael Tyler (Gunther the Coffee House guy from “Friends”) doesn’t have a Bacon Number, but Jennifer Aniston has a Bacon Number of 1, so as far as I’m concerned James Michael Tyler has a Bacon Number of 2. (I need to get out more.)

  33. Jazlyn Khan says:

Kurt Thomas, “star” of the movie Gymkata (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0089243/)(not recommended viewing. My personal rating, negative two and a half stars.)… Strangely, “kurt thomas bacon number” results in… nothing. Well, ok, some links, but no bacon number. Even google won’t look at this movie. Should maybe tell you something.

  34. Janet says:

    Justin Bieber is 4

  35. Anita Bath says:

Going strictly by this site, Jamie Hyneman from MythBusters is a 4, although he doesn’t actually show up at all. But Adam Savage does show up as a 3, so you just go on to figure Jamie as a 4.

But, sticking strictly to movies (although not necessarily ACTING in them) Jamie worked on the special effects for “Aracnophobia,” which starred John Goodman, who has a number of 1, making Jamie Hyneman a 2.

And no, I haven’t been doing this all day. I took a nap as well.

  36. Dabrog says:

Both Fiore Tedesco and Tony Stone from the movie “Severed Ways” have Bacon Numbers of infinity. Legitimate actors in a legitimate movie released internationally.

  37. SussexWatcher says:

    Why is this interesting?

  38. Angela says:

I found a score of 0 (or would that be infinity?) Iit was someone who was in the movie “The Bodyguard.” Kevin Bacon doesn’t know EVERYone, it seems! I went to high school with Rollin Jewett; his name is now Rollin Jarrett and his Bacon score doesn’t come up on Google.

  39. Jason330 says:

By zero, you mean infinity I take it. But Jarrett was in “The Bodyguard” there is no way he has a score higher than three. The google score isn’t the final arbiter. It is only a tool. We are on a slippery slope to some Star Trek future where we trade our liberty for security if we outsource our Bacon Number computations to the google.

  40. Jenny says:

Norman Coburg, Australian actor, bacon number 3

  41. chlorophil says:

The oracle of Bacon seems to be a better determinant of someone’s Bacon number.

    oracleofbacon.org

  42. chlorophil says:

Also, it turns out Kevin Bacon is not the best actor to use for this little game. But I forget who is, it’s on the site somewhere.

  43. jason330 says:

Rod Stieger is the most connected actor. I think.

  44. nemski says:

Wikipedia agrees with you Jason330. I don’t know if that is a good thing or a bad thing.

  45. Leroy says:

I found a hole in the Google search. Robert Schenkkan (actor and Pulitzer Prize winning playwright) has been in movies with both John Lithgow and Christian Slater making him a 2 by more than one path but Google just brings up a Robert Schenkkan search when you look for his Bacon Number.

  46. puck says:

Google apparently isn’t using its vast search index; it’s using a separate database of actors. If Google can’t find a Bacon number for you, that just means you’re not in their actor database.

  47. Rory Sellers says:

Sammy Sosa’s Bacon Number is 5

  48. My Bacon number is 2. Because of movies I’ve done. But actually, it should be 1, because I shared his limo at The Toronto Film Festival, with Aiden Quinn, and we hung out for a while. Very nice guy. So there’sone “higher than 4″…

  49. Eman De'Riuqer says:

Earl Montgomery (II) (1894–1966), http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0599770/, who was in 74 films according to IMDB, doesn’t have a Bacon Number, disproving the theory. Oops. There goes that stup1d idea.

  50. Eman De'Riuqer says:

Also, Musidora (Les Vapires, 1915) has a Bacon Number of 6, costar Marcel Lévesque has one of 7, (not listed on Google, but since he was in a film with Musidora, who has a BN of 6… by definition, Marcel Lévesque’s number must be 7. This, again, disproves the Six Degrees Of Separation between anyone in film and Kevin Bacon. (And don’t tell me that the film is French and therefore doesn’t count, because at least one member of the cast has a BN that is 6 or less, Édouard Mathé’s is 5, I didn’t bother checking the rest of the cast, because at this point I really don’t need to.)
    So much for KB. 🙂

  51. jd45673 says:

Kerry Washington has a Bacon number of 29

  52. Pencadermom says:

That’s way off. Kerry Washington was in the Ray Charles movie with Jamie Foxx. He was in Collateral with Tom Cruise. Cruise was in A Few Good Men with Kevin Bacon.
I think we all have a bacon number, and I think they are all fairly low.

  53. Greg says:

I managed to break the bacon number.
Lon Chaney Sr s number is 3, but part of the chain is Kenneth Charles Branagh (born 10 December 1960). They worked together in The Unknown, a 1927 American silent horror film…….

  54. puck says:

“Cruise was in A Few Good Men with Kevin Bacon.”

    I bet he was.

  55. socialistic ben says:

    giggity

  56. socialistic ben says:

I suppose if we figured in directors, producers and crew, everyone’s bacon number would be 1 or 2.

  57. Pencadermom says:

yes, but you are probably less degrees than you think without directors, producers, and crew. You might have to include immediate family members. There are enough local actors to do that. Take someone from a lot of movies. If you are one degree away from someone like Bruce Willis (like me), you are probably already pretty close to Kevin Bacon. In a bacon number sense, not a giggity sense.. Not that there would be anything wrong with that.

  58. NJC says:

I tried the actor Richard Hatch who played Captain Apollo in the original Battlestar Galactica and got NOTHING at all…seems there are some actors who are not within the 6 degrees

However doing my own research it would be 3

Lorne Greene and Richard Hatch appeared in Battlestar Galactica
Lorne Greene and Walter Matthau appeared in Earthquake
Walter Matthau and Kevin Bacon appeared in JFK

  59. Xenomagnet says:

Hal Warren (the man behind Manos: Hand of Fate) has a Bacon Number of 5

  60. Bowen says:

James may, from a show in the UK called topgear is a 5! best i have found so far 🙂
