Bob Casey in danger of giving away a safe D Senate seat in PA
If we lose this one, you’ll probably be able to chalk it up to the despicable Citizens United decision. I’ve seen Smith’s ads and he is running as a stealth wingnut. The TV spots are very polished and if you didn’t keep up with politics, it would be impossible to know who was the Democrat and who was the Republican based on the ads.
For example, when the voice over is saying something like, “Smith favors expanding our use of our plentiful domestic energy…” the accompanying picture isn’t a fracking well, but a solar installation.
Polls Show Pennsylvania Senate Race Tightening

Republican businessman Tom Smith is now within striking distance of Democratic Sen. Bob Casey, according to a new poll showing the Pennsylvania Senate race tightening. The poll of likely voters released Wednesday by Quinnipiac University, the New York Times and CBS News showed Casey leading Smith 49 percent to 43 percent. The same poll showed President Obama leading Mitt Romney by 12 points in Pennsylvania.
The race has long been considered a lock for Casey, but Smith has been outspending the incumbent 3 to 1 on the airwaves since winning the GOP primary, according to National Journal. Smith has been gaining on Casey in recent weeks.
Casey currently leads by only 3.9 points, according to the PollTracker Average.
Not sure what the Citizens United decision has to do with this, unless you’re just making a joke. Smith is wildly outspending Casey without the benefit of any serious third-party help (in fact, there was a $250k spend by a SuperPAC which was opposing Smith in the primary.) Casey needs to raise and spend some real money and actually campaign on the good that he has done for PA, but I’m just not seeing him do any of those things. He is just letting this one slip away!
