Mitt Romney gave a foreign policy speech yesterday in which he criticized the President and then announced he had no ideas different than the President.

Early VP Debate Predictions

Filed in National by on October 9, 2012 1 Comment

Ryan is going to reveal the budgetary and rhetorical genius that he has been hiding all of this time. Biden is going to make a stammering ass out of himself. Ryan is going to rip his shirt off in triumph and flex is P90-x abs in celebration. The Nation will swoon. Rasmussen will show a huge jump in Romney’s polling numbers. Intrade investors will drop Obama like plutonium, and the GOP ticket will cruise to victory carrying 7 Senate seats along with them for good measure.

A ‘Must-Listen’ Al Show On Tuesday!

Filed in National by on October 8, 2012 9 Comments

Cathy Cloutier came on the Al Mascitti Show Monday to ‘set the record straight’ concerning my claims that, not only hadn’t Cloutier earned the trust of the LGBT community, she had betrayed that trust. At least twice, by my account.

(For the uninitiated, Cloutier’s campaign signs read “She’s Earned Our Trust”).

For the first time for most people, an entire radio audience was exposed to someone who is incapable of thinking on her own, and someone who, even after 14 years in the Delaware General Assembly, is the proverbial deer in the headlights. Oh, and she dissembled and, yes, lied.

You really ought to listen to the WDEL podcast

Monday Open Thread [10.8.12]

Filed in Open Thread by on October 8, 2012 4 Comments

According the the New York Times, Vice President Biden is at a Delaware hotel for three days of debate camp starting today. I wondered how that could possibly be, since the Vice President does have a nice empty house in Wilmington to use. And then I finally got to the end of the article on the Obama campaign’s reaction to the listless debate and noticed this timely correction posted this morning:

An earlier version of this story incorrectly said that Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. was moving into a Delaware hotel for three days of debate preparations. He will actually spend the nights at his home in Wilmington.

Damn. I was preparing a Scavenger Hunt along the lines of “Where in DE is the Vice President?” Oh well.

The Polling Report [10.8.12]

The Polling Report [10.8.12]

A lot of polling firms went quiet in the middle of the week in order to go into the field fresh on Thursday to gauge the debate impact. Romney has definitely gotten a bump, but what is encouraging is that it is not at the expense of Obama. Obama’s numbers are holding, so Romney is just picking up undecideds. We should get a clearer picture of the battleground since Mitt Romney lied his way to a debate win last Wednesday.

Indeed, I have a question for Republicans and conservatives. If you have to lie about your policies, plans and ideologies in order to win, what does that tell you?

In some polls, notably the PPP poll out of Virginia last night, the Romney lies only served to make him more likable among Democrats and Independents, and they allowed Romney to win the debate. Interestingly though, while Virginia independents think Romney won the debate 71-17, it doesn’t mean they are voting for him. They are splitting their vote at 46% a piece. And while more Democrats may find Romney likeable now than before, they are not voting for him.

Sunday Open Thread [10.7.12]

Filed in Open Thread by on October 7, 2012 9 Comments

A rainy Sunday — one where you might curl up with the papers and coffee. Except that this morning’s NJ has a “Special Report” called Are You Better Off? Have you read it? I did — pretty much word for word and what a mess this is. Starting with the conceit that the financial problems started in January 2009 and largely undermined by that throughout the pieces, I’m pretty sure I didn’t learn anything. And don’t get me started on the piece that picked two “right-leaning” economists and two “left-leaning” economists that largely left the “right-leaning” ones alot of cover behind a political start date, rather than the start date of the recession. But hey — maybe I missed something.

Saturday Open Thread [10.6.12]

Filed in Open Thread by on October 6, 2012 0 Comments

Welcome to Saturday! Today I want to bring your attention to a new Bill Moyers interview with Mike Lofgren, the ex-GOP staffer who wrote the incendiary Goodbye to All That: Reflections of a GOP Operative Who Left the Cult . Mr. Lofgren has written a book extending on his thoughts on the extremism of his old party (and the dysfunction of Democrats) called The Party is Over: How Republicans Went Crazy, Democrats Became Useless, and the Middle Class Got Shafted.

Late Night Video — The Weirdest Campaign Video of the Season

This one features Steve Martin working out some home crafting issues while sneaky messages asking for support for Bob Kerrey (competing for the Senate seat Ben Nelson is retiring from). I love Steve Martin, but this is very strange indeed:

Bill Colley of WGMD seems to think so.  Here’s what he wrote on his Facebook page: “After speaking with Eric Bodenweiser I get the impression he may withdraw from his Senate race.”
