I guess I’m an ocean snob, but I don’t get the Delaware Bay at all.

In the flatlands the Bay is the only geographical feature.

It’s a little easier to kayak in the bay than in the ocean. You can’t end up in Senegal when you kayak in the bay.

Ahhh Dave- no adventure
The bay is calm, flat and boring- and the bugs! Black flies, horse flies etc….. Yuck
Now, surfing the rips in a Kayak at the tip of the Cape is awesome. Takes a little skill and some fun. Even if you get caught in the rip and taken offshore you will only get as far as Hen and Chicken shoal.
Plus, paddling at a 45 degree angle will get you out no problem
Carry dye markers, colored smoke canisters and a strobe and a whistle- get a waterproof bag for your phone too- the ship- reporting station at the tip of the Cape see all activity in that area.
My biggest fear in the bay OR THE ocean is the freaking Pennsylvania Navy- seen them harassing dolphins, driving jet skis and boats way too far inshore, and several times have nearly been run over by them- UGH, no manners and no skills either.
Wish the marine police were a little more active with the DUI rules out there- then again DSP has a boat now- only time I ever see that is at the polar bear plunge where it’s all show and is of no possible use in frigid water with a bad rip.

My wife got caught in the rip at the tip. Of course, I put on a serious face as I got her turned and going in the right direction. She decided that Red Mill Pond was probably more her speed from now on. But I agree, it’s interesting out there on the point and we did carry out phones in waterproof bags.
The marine police (is that DNREC?) seem to do a decent job, even on Rehoboth Bay. Like every where else, they can’t be all places all the time and there also seems to be a Delaware Navy although you would think living near the water would instill more common sense in the ones from Delaware.

Hahaha…..you have a point Dave.
Don’t like red mill pond much…….snapping turtles….and all
Love it when the dolphins are active- been bumped a time or too- they always look more surprised by the fact that I am there then I am by being bumped.
Seen some amazing things out by the wall at the base of Harbor of Refuge light…..like the big Thresher shark last summer…….good thing I know they have small mouths a HD don’t bother humans, much……
