Carper, Coons & Carney voice unequivocal support for Obama
It was refreshing to read of our congressional delegation’s open and unhedged support for the President in this morning’s News Journal. In the interest of balance, Delaware’s bipartisan-to-a-fault DC delegation usually finds something to like about the GOP’s spin on every issue. On NOT rushing to bomb Syria, however, there is uniform agreement. Obama is right. This is a Democracy. Let’s have a vote.
Obviously recent history supports the President’s decision to be wary of the intelligence and to wait for (even this worst ever) Congress to return to DC and do their jobs to debating the nation’s affairs. But that doesn’t stop the GOP from taking the contrary position for the hell of it.
New York Republican Peter King speaks on behalf of the idiot party when he concern trolls on behalf of future President’s who Obama is emasculating with this decision. “President Obama is abdicating his responsibility as commander in chief and undermining the authority of future presidents.” King is quoted in the NJ’s AP story.
This is predictable wingnut idiocy, but idiocy I’ve come to expect to find at least traces of in Coons, Carper and Carney press statements. As reliably “blue” as Delaware is now, there isn’t a conservative voter that they don’t try to placate by being, at least a little bit on the GOP every side of every issue.
With the DEGOP flat on its back, maybe this signals some sort of change? Maybe our representatives know that the future action is going to be on the Dem primary level? I tend to doubt it. It is probably more that this was just such an open and shut case. You’d have to be as stupid as Peter King to think that the President is making a mistake here.
I doubt that this signals any change here, too. I do think that supporting Obama in getting Congressional approval for a Syrian strike is the path of least resistance at this point.
This idiocy:
Mind, however, that Rep. King *would* be criticizing the President for anything possible after said strike actually happened. Especially if Congress votes it down and the President does it anyway. But I do think that watching the GOP factions — isolationist vs. neo-con intervention should be interesting.
That’s excellent, …and so true. The GOP has become a joke. Unable to do anything except reflexively oppose anything the President does.
Well, let’s just see if there is at least some skepticism from our delegation when it comes to supporting striking Syria.
Actually, we don’t need to wait and see. There will be no skepticism from our delegation. After all, none of them called for a congressional vote until Obama did.
I know this was an awfully optimistic post. McCains bloviating about what a “catastrophe” it would be if we don’t bomb Syrian elementary schools to prove we’ve got the biggest dick was nauseating, but these guys eat that crap up.
