Polling Report: Lt Governor

Filed in National by on September 1, 2013

Absent anyone saying that they actually want to be Delaware’s next Lt Governor, “Other” (14%) had a pretty good showing in spite of a fairly long list of choices. (Nicole Poore in the house!)

Flowers (D) 31% appears to be Mr. Inevitable in the view of DL readers. Peterson (14%) and Biden (11%) round out the Dems top three. (Who thinks Biden is eyeing the Lt. Gov epaullets? Not me.)

The R’s historcally shallow bench (thanks again Christine O.!) forces Copeland (4%) to the top of the GOPeeps. Bonini (3%) Protack (2%) and Lawson (1%) all fail to come in last.

Lopez at 0% wins that honor and I have to say that showing was a shocker for me. I thought he was the GOP’s next statewide contender in waiting.

Next up Beaches.

While some Flowers acolytes (Chip’s Monks) do talk about him being the Lt. Gov, wouldn’t it be funny if a) Chip did win that race in 2016, then b) the new Governor appointed a replacement Treasurer who c) then went on to beat Chip in a Governor primary in 2024 anyway?

  2. liberals are idiots says:

It is hard to believe how stupid you are. The “bench” in the GOP is 100% better than the career hacks the D’s put up. COD did not destroy the GOP and if you think so you truly are sad. That process was a log one starting in 1988 and if you don’t know what that incident was than you are hopeless.

    Delaware=Democrat=Dumb=Demented=Definite Decline of Delaware.

No jobs, bad schools, lousy roads, corruption everywhere and no economic growth, Thank you Democratic Party.

  3. Nuttingham says:

Just curious, “idiots,” but who is on that GOP bench? Your insurance commissioner candidate last time seemed to have some promise, but the party pretty much abandoned him.

A handful of GOP legislators that voted against popular budgets and the hundreds of popular programs within them (each of which makes a pretty devastating ad)?

  4. Tom McKenney says:

As foolish as it is, I’m glad that LAI and his ilk keep spouting their nonsense. They are the reason that voters do not vote for GOP candidates.

  5. jason330 says:

I agree. Whenever these guys open their mouths in public, or post a comment, a Democrat, somewhere, gets a few extra votes.

  6. Nuttingham says:

I am actually curious about their bench. There’s four or five fairly rich guys who have hinted in the past about running for something. One of them made a few million selling Boston Market franchises, for example. But I don’t know how seriously they are taken.

The GOP made a big mistake by lumping Levin into their attacks on Markell. He might have been a very strong candidate for them otherwise.

Prediction: Flowers won’t win re-election as Treasurer, let alone Lt. Gov.

Waiting for the next News Journal article to drop about HIS credit card expenses. Starkey has the info. And betting that the fact that he was WITH his Deputy and using that car service at that Patriots game won’t be viewed upon so kindly by “the people”.

Now, cue the ‘Chip-monks’ to rush to his defense. In 5…4…3…2…1…

  8. Nuttingham says:

    Whu, whu, what?

Is that why the Treasurer’s office asked OMB to find a state job for the Deputy? So she wouldn’t talk in a follow up story about who was in the car?

  9. jason330 says:

I don’t buy it. You can’t hold onto a story at the NJ because you might not have a job tomorrow.

  10. Geezer says:

“COD did not destroy the GOP and if you think so you truly are sad.”

That’s true. Mike Protack started the process of destroying the GOP in 1998, when he started his assault on upstate Republicans that continues to this day. He was the first to rally the unwashed, stupid masses that rose up and destroyed Mike Castle in 2010.

“That process was a log one starting in 1988 and if you don’t know what that incident was than you are hopeless.”

Really? Do tell, what was that incident?

  11. jason330 says:

Let’s see… Mike Castle was elected to his second term as Governor? That can’t be it. Hmmm… The Soviet Union begins its program of economic restructuring (perestroika) with legislation initiated by Premier Mikhail Gorbachev…Hustler Magazine v. Falwell: The Supreme Court of the United States sides with Hustler magazine by overturning a lower court decision to award Jerry Falwell $200,000 for defamation….Lieutenant Colonel Oliver North and Vice Admiral John Poindexter are indicted on charges of conspiracy to defraud the United States….Soviet war in Afghanistan: After more than 8 years of fighting, the Soviet Army begins withdrawing from Afghanistan….Iran Air Flight 655 is shot down by a missile launched from the USS Vincennes….Benazir Bhutto is sworn in as Prime Minister of Pakistan, becoming the first woman to head the government of an Islam-dominated state….Pan Am Flight 103 is blown up over Lockerbie, Scotland, killing a total of 270 people. Those responsible are believed to be Libyans.

Should be a more interesting PDD meeting in any event.

  13. SussexWatcher says:

How do you prove he was there with her?

  14. Nuttingham says:

Didn’t he, she, Ferris and Cameron catch that ball on the Jumbotron?

  15. Jason330 says:

    lol

  16. El Somnambulo says:

Re the Flowers & his deputy rumors, it is at least legit to ask why he seems to have gone out of his way to run interference for her when one would expect him to be outraged at her credit card misuse and her shifting explanations.

I hope someone at the PDD meeting asks about those apparent incongruities.

Hey, I’d be there to ask, but we’re in Oregon and we’re having an incredible time.
