The Underlying Strength of the American Conservative Movement

Filed in National by on October 16, 2013

The strength and durability of American conservatism rests in its simplicity. Scientists have demonstrated that the simpleminded favor conservatism, and that the conservative mind deals only in stark binary choices eschewing nuance. But beyond the brain chemistry that pre-wires them to absurd reduction, conservative simplicity manifests itself in a clarity of operating principles. Conservatives agree on some basic things and work hard to try and turn their beliefs into policy.

They want lower taxes. They want a debt-free government. They want a strong national defense. They want to diminish the rights of non-whites and non-heterosexuals. They want Obamacare dismantled. They want abortion to be illegal. They want the Christian God to be America’s official God.

That these items are screw-ball and anti-American isn’t material. They are simple. This simple list makes it easy to get people riled to knock on doors. The simplicity has carried them through periods when they should have been routed. And while they are in disarray over strategy right now – they rarely have conflict over the big goals.

    Such profound observations, Jason!

It’s true that those bourgeois conservatives and their deluded followers in the proletariat are nothing more than scientifically-proven mental defects.

Their blindered outlook lacks the depth and nuance of our philosophy: government solves everything.

The simple-minded rationale that rights are inherent in the individual and not grants extended (and subject to revocation!) by the collective is such an absurd premise, it’s barely worth refuting. In fact, I often wonder why our clearly superior ideology struggles in contest with the moronic malarkey supported by our opponents.

Do the masses not know that the programs devised by our intelligentsia are in their best interests? They should accept the fact that they lack the wherewithal to manage their own lives; that they are only apes forfeit to the greater good of society; that we know best. If unwilling, they must be forced to acquiesce to our genius and accept our plans.

    Ever onward, comrade!

Showing the simplicity of the conservative mind, you apparently think yourself clever. But the fact is that there are no rights inherent in the individual in any meaningful sense. It was a fanciful notion when dreamt up and remains one today, as at no time since the founding of civilization have rights come from anywhere except whatever governing authority held power at the time.

You know why collectivism will never work? Human nature. As conservatives show every day of their lives, selfishness reigns supreme in most humans. Only conservatives choose to celebrate that flaw.

And look at just how much they are fucking up in their wake.

Notice that this list lets the conservative mind convince itself that it is fighting for some heritage or some old school state of being when everything was fine and all of the right people knew their place. It also lets the corporate interests who push them along let them ignore the fact that it is the corporate interests that are their greatest threat. It lets them see this teajhadi with 10 kids being homeschooled AND on medicaid tell his constituents that the government shouldn’t be involved with health care.

“mental defect” applies cultural values. There are probably endeavors that line up well with the conservative disposition. Cabinet making, for example.

Anyway, I think we can all agree governing a modern state isn’t one of them.

I particularly enjoyed the moron’s illustration of Jason’s prognosis of black-and-white thinking — his contention that liberals think government can solve all problems.

I hear this over and over again from conservatives. It’s wildly untrue, but it is the opposite of what they think, so they believe it must be what liberals think.

They are, literally, mentally defective. And not in a positive way.
