  1. I’m glad someone mentioned Graham. Can anyone think of a more FAILED agenda? When you think of a guy’s life work, and you realize that Church attendance has been on a steep decline since he first opened his mouth, you’d be hard pressed to think of a bigger failure.

    Jason,

Billy Graham remains a iconic figure in American both in spiritual and public life ( especially as a adviser to many Democratic and Republican Presidents). I’m sorry you view him as a “failure” and attribute the decline of church attendance to his performance as a preacher and bringing the word of God all over the world. To his credit – he preached in societies who denied the right to worship to millions of people. He gave hope and light to those folks – we will see hoe he Is judged-BTW I’m not a Protestant

  3. Dunno whether I’d use the term ‘failed’.

But the very idea that president after president paid supplicant fealty to evangelical Christianity in the form of Graham should not be a source of pride to the genuflecting ‘Honorables’.

In fact, the legitimizing of Graham played a key role in the rise of the evangelical movement, at least half (the haters) of which helped create the American Taliban.

Just look at his asshole son. Did that bad apple fall far from the tree?

“Above all, don’t lie to yourself. The man who lies to himself and listens to his own lie comes to a point that he cannot distinguish the truth within him, or around him, and so loses all respect for himself and for others.” – Fyodor Dostoyevsky, The Brothers Karamazov

I feel like this is appropriate for Billy Graham. I feel bad though. Perhaps like George Constanza he started to believe it. It’s hard to see your own lie when the balance in your bank account keeps increasing with ever fib.
