The “Race” for Chief Justice
Last week, the deadline for applications to be received by the Judicial Nominating Commission passed with only four applications being submitted. Who knew you actually had to “apply” for the job? Hell, if I knew that, I might have applied, despite being pretty ill-qualified for the post. According to Jeff Mordock at Delaware Law Weekly, the four candidates are Supreme Court Justice Carolyn Berger, Superior Court Judge Jan Jurden, Court of Chancery Chancellor Leo Strine Jr. and Superior Court President Judge James Vaughn Jr.
The next step in the process is that Commission will review the names and submit a list of three names out of those four to Governor Markell, who will make the final selection. The nominee would then have to be confirmed by the State Senate in January.
Who is the favorite?
Veterans Day Open Thread [11.11.13]
I would like to thank on this Veterans Day my grandfathers Jake and Daniel, my grandmother Kathryn (who served as an Army nurse in Louisiana during World War II), uncles Lew and Charles, as well as many friends, who have served our country in the Armed Forces. As a nation, we can never repay the debt we owe our veterans. The best we can do is work hard to be worthy of their sacrifice. And now, to do what many of them signed up to protect: freely debating politics and our government’s policies.
Come inside and find out how and why Jason is wrong about Chris Christie.
Chart of the Day — The Collapse of Infrastructure Spending
This is one amazing chart — documenting just how much we are underspending in fixing and upgrading our infrastructure, keeping in mind that we were under-investing in infrastructure already. This chart includes state and local spending (not just the Feds) and should be a Very Big Red Flag:
This Is How Intimidation Looks
I can’t believe I’m writing another gun post, but this nonsense has to stop. Take a look at this picture. Read below to discover what it is. Delaware has the 6th lowest tax burden for retirees
When I last checked this we were #2 behind Alaska, so 6th is an improvement. With any luck we can drop out of the top ten in the next couple of years and stop attracting all of these cheapskates from New Jersey.
Christine O’Donnell to loom large as Conservatives prepare Christie nose holding strategies
I know I’m obsessed with this, but it is going to be Christie for the GOP in 2016. Teabags are going to get onboard, and this RedState diary by davenj1 can be viewed as the blue print for making that a little easier for the party’s base to swallow.
1. Being against Christie is the same as being “for” the Democrat. […]
Saturday Open Thread [11.9.13]
ABC News’ Sam Donaldson was acquitted of a DUI in Sussex County Superior Court due to a technicality. Good for you Sam, now, you are 79 years old. Stop drinking and driving.
The limits of reason when confronting intuition and its implications for politics and blog threads
There is a famous psychology experiment which deals with how humans resolve conflicts between intuition and reason. The spoiler is – not very well. But the experiment goes like this:
