I am confused by Jason’s Poll….
I am voting for Barney, because I will never vote for any living or dead Republican to handle the state’s finances. Indeed, if you want to prove to me you are fiscally responsible, you cannot be a Republican. But I digress.
I guess his question is measuring my enthusiasm in voting for Barney, where 10 is voting for Obama in 2008 and 1 is voting for Carper/Carney at any time. I am at a 5.
Anyway, here is something humorous that Trey Paradee posted on Facebook:
See, it is shit like that makes Republicans fiscally irresponsible. For they will refuse to raise taxes on anything, and thus they will have to cut spending on a hell of a whole lot. I would like to ask Mr. Kramer what social services he plans on cutting. And voters should get that answered before they are stupid enough to vote for him. And if he wants to represent a district, he should learn to spell the word.
Looks like Mr. Kramer is all for cutting the T out of district.
Now, if he would also support taking the T out of the Tea Party …
They took the “T” out because “truth” begins with “T”. So what tax increases did Trey vote for in his less than two years in office? Income Tax increase on working Delawareans? Nope. Income Tax increase on the wealthy? Nope. 50 cent a gallon increase on gasoline ( gee we would be paying $3.40/gallon now and have our infrastructure saved)? Nope. The Republican answer is to cut taxes for the wealthy (even when they are at an historical low) and then cut the budget by reducing “waste and fraud”-but have a State Auditor in office for 25 hears who never finds any waste or fraud. Kramer fits the Republican plan to a “T”
This is our 18yr old’s first election & he is looking forward ti casting his ballot in 13 days!

OK, Mitch, you’re right, they took out the T for Truth. But the examples you cite make Trey sound like a Republican.
That wasn’t my point. Trey never voted for those increases because such bills were either never filed or never made it to the floor. So–he couldn’t have voted for such increases.
I think Jason is still struggling with not letting the perfect be the enemy of the good. One day, he will join us in adulthood and realize what you just said – Republicans can’t be trusted to govern.

What I still don’t get is why Barney’s campaign sucks ass.
Like today’s News Journal letter from a Dover intellectual, railing against Carney and Coons because they voted for the ACA – which passed Congress when Coons was County Executive and Carney was in the private sector. Editing not allowed on the “editorial page.”
Jason… my impression and opinion is that 1) a conscious decision was made to fly under the radar, and follow the Karen Weldin Stewart path to victory (i.e. riding coattails to victory); and 2) there has been a little bit (i.e. a lot) of anticlimatic-ness about this race due to the lack of the primary and Flowers’ withdrawal. I feel that the foot was taken off the gas pedal after Flowers got out. The problem with that is that the attention he would have received in the primary was necessary to build his name recognition. The lack of a completed primary means less name recognition and less campaign enthusiam.
I predict Barney will still win, because I doubt that much of 57% who are voting for Coons and Carney will also vote for Simpler.
For those keeping track…Trey sent out an attack mailer on Kramer with the R missing from the word “contracts.”
Must be something in the water in the 29th.

ok, Anon, I stopped my GOTV work and checked. Rep. Paradee did a good job on these “tax bills” It seems I was wrong, he did vote to increase taxes on those better off than most:
HB 50- increased taxes on those netting over $60,000 a year from 5.95% all the way up to 6.6%. Something like $250 more in taxes if your taxable income is $100,000!
HB 51- does not increase taxes. The Delaware Estate Tax was due to sunset. This bill stopped the Sunset and retained the Estate Tax. Good for him. Most Delawareans will never have estate’s large enough to have to worry about it.
HB 52= does not increase taxes. It lowers the tax on manufacturers who were in the 1% bracket by 30%
So–Trey Paradee voted to raise income taxes a little on those making the most; voted to keep the Estate Tax as it is and voted to reduce the tax on small manufacturers-helping to create job. What a liberal he must be!
Now back to GOTV work-two weeks to go
Mitch, Trey didn’t do himself any favors here. In his own words last campaign he said “allow the sunsets to expire and end tax increases that were put in place during the recession. Cut the gross receipts tax on businesses, which is passed on to consumers as Delaware’s ‘hidden sales tax.'”
You just gave three examples of how he reneged on what he told voters (HB 53 raised gross receipts taxes on many industries, cut it for a few I believe).
I give it to both candidates, they have some fight in them.

How so? I’m referring to a tax on transfer and again on the sale. That’s taxing capital twice.
I would not say that is a radical idea since its been in practice around the country for so long…though I understand the idea of paying taxes on their property their whole life then again when transferring property is upsetting.
To be fair though, unless you are transferring a larger estate (family farms included), this doesn’t effect most people, its a top %er thing.
I think Baney will try to pull some trickery, and I think Ken will do something Simler.

Uhh, I beg to differ guys, but it was Gov. Pete DuPont who brought Delaware back from the brink of financial ruin, and established stronger financial protections on a state that was teetering on the edge of bankruptcy. It was Delaware Republicans who restored fiscal responsibility to this State.
But, of course, in this hyper-partisan era, I don’t expect to see anyone here saying anything kind about Republicans, even to the point of ignoring history.

….yes. Sorry, I don’t want a landed elite and a permanent ruling class – we’re already a little too close to that. I hear aristocracy is bad for my health.
And J – It’s a little different when a person actively identifies with a party that espouses a certain set of ideals, principles, and theories. This is more along the lines of “don’t give an arsonist matches”.

I like reading this site but have never commented. I saw the sign and was like “BURN!!!” I mean way to keep it real, it’s pretty creative too. If Trey campaigned on voting for every tax increase and still won I wouldn’t have an issue – but I wouldn’t vote for a guy who is lying to get votes. He also voted against gay marriage. I was confused to even find out he was a Democrat, he’s probably worse to have in office than a Republican. I also received the “attack” mailer from Trey (with the typo) and it was quite a stretch. I think he’s worried and looks like for a good reason.
DE used to have sensible republicans like Castle and Roth as well as many local offices. Not any more
