Help Bernie Sanders get on the Ballot in the Delaware

Filed in National by on January 12, 2016

While I may not be a Bernie supporter, I am all about fair play. So if you are so inclined, and you want to help collect signatures so Bernie Sanders can get on the ballot in the Delaware, please read the following information. If you just want to sign a petition form so that he gets on the ballot, please contact de4bernie@gmail.com.

To get Bernie Sanders on the ballot in Delaware, we need to collect 500 valid signatures from registered Democrats. To be certain we have enough valid signatures to withstand any challenges, the campaign will collect at least twice that amount of signatures.

It is critically important that we collect signatures the right way, to avoid having large numbers of signatures invalidated. The process is not too hard, as long as you follow the instructions in this guide. Read carefully, and then sign up for a signature-gathering event in your area!

Step One: The Petition Form
All signatures MUST be collected on this form. The form should be printed single-sided on legal sized (8.5” x 14”) paper.

Step Two: Gathering Signatures
Find a place where you will see a lot of people from the same community. You might try a local farmer’s market, a local supermarket (with the store manager’s permission, of course), or even go door-to-door in your neighborhood.

People who sign your forms must sign, print their name underneath their signatures, and fill in their complete address (which should match the one they used to register to vote), their county, and the date. We cannot write in this information for them.

Their social security number is optional; however, including this information helps ensure that the signatures can be validated. Urge people to provide it.

TIP: walk people through the form as they sign, to make sure they put the correct information in the correct boxes. Additionally, note the signature line numbers on the left side of the form, and make sure people don’t write their information across multiple signature lines.

Step Three: Witnessing Signatures
After you have finished gathering signatures, you must fill out the witness affidavit in front of a notary public. Do not begin filling out the information until you are with the notary.
Once you locate a notary, put an X in every unused signature box. Then fill out your full residential address and sign the form. The notary will complete the rest.

You must satisfy all the conditions in the affidavit on the form. You do not have to be a resident of Delaware to witness signatures, however.

TIP: You can find notaries at places like a local bank, a library, or a UPS store, or use this website to locate one near you.

Step Four: Turn In the Completed Petitions
Once you are finished, send (with a tracking number) or hand deliver the completed petitions to our authorized representative in Delaware, Gerry Gray. Gerry’s address is:

Gerry Gray
21133 Sterling Ave., Unit 12
Georgetown, DE 19947

Questions? You can send an email to ballotaccess@berniesanders.com. Otherwise, sign up for an event to get started!

I signed a few weeks ago. Looks like Bernie is going to make Secretary Clinton work for it. Ahead in New Hampshire (no biggie) and within the margin of error in Iowa (semi-biggie).

If he wins the first two, are all bets off?

  2. Delaware Dem says:

Not really. He’ll get a money surge, which will be necessary, but he will have to win in Nevada in order to continue momentum in Super Tuesday. If he wins Nevada, then all bets are off. And then there is Super Tuesday. Clinton might trounce in all of those states.

My prediction is that he loses Iowa by a narrow margin and wins NH by a narrow margin.

  3. El Somnambulo says:

I think Bernie wins Iowa. Unless Hillary has significantly upgraded her grassroots caucus game since 2008, I believe Sanders wins more delegates based on superior organization.

And if she hasn’t upgraded her game, people will ask what the bleep she learned in 8 years. Then, they’ll worry.

    Cut ‘n paste.

  4. Delaware Dem says:

She has significantly upgraded her ground game in Iowa since 2008, hence my prediction she will win Iowa.
