Marino wants Hansen To Apologize for BlueDelaware.com write up

Filed in National by on January 30, 2017

This is an absurd, but the fairly typical example of GOP snowflaking. It worked against Clinton when GOP strategists pretended that Clinton called ALL Republicans deplorable, and it could work here if Hansen allows it to work. She needs to hit back hard at this.

Middletown, DE – Reacting to published reports that Stephanie Hansen referred to Republicans living in the 10th District as “hateful” and uncaring, John Marino today called for the Hansen campaign to apologize to the over 10,000 people in the 10th District who identify as Republicans.

“This is outrageous,” said Marino. “This kind of rhetoric is why our nation is so divided today. For my opponent to label 10,000 residents of the 10th District as ‘hateful’ is beyond unhinged – it is damaging to our community. It raises questions as to whether my opponent is fit to serve.”

The eyewitness report on the website Blue Delaware also alleges that other elected Democrats spoke along the same lines, including Senate leaders Dave McBride and Nicole Poore.

“To discriminate against an entire section of the population just because they registered with a political party is downright crazy,” said Marino. “Everyday I encounter Democrats who are great people, many of which are longtime friends. They care very deeply about our area and our state, and sometimes we disagree on how best to improve. But as I knock on their doors, they are very cordial and engage in serious conversation about the issues of the day. Many have become strong supporters of our campaign. I would never describe them in the vile terms that my opponent described Republicans.

Confused. What does this have to do with Blue Delaware? I don’t see a post with that in it.

  2. Jason330 says:

    I mis-cropped the press release:

The eyewitness report on the website Blue Delaware also alleges that other elected Democrats spoke along the same lines, including Senate leaders Dave McBride and Nicole Poore.

  3. sussexdem says:

unbelievable…more dems ignoring regular people!! need more candidates like MIKE MILLER and less like hansen!!

  4. nemski says:

Okay, I see it now. I’m wondering how long it will take Delaware Dem to delete his hyperbolic post. Classic DD.

  5. nemski says:

That said basing one’s political campaign against a post by DD is hilarious.

  6. puck says:

I was at Hansen’s fundraiser this Saturday. She and a number of Dem elected officials spoke to a partisan crowd of Democrats, and I didn’t once hear the word “hateful” or anything similar.

Looks like Marino is predictably taking his cues from Bannon and Conway.

  7. nemski says:

The words they are complaining about are solely DelawareDem’s. Marino might have a reading problem.

  8. Delete it? Look for a doubling-down on hyperbole.

  9. Jason330 says:

Everyone is entitled to their impression.

My take away is that the transparent fraudulence of the offense

…makes Team Marino sound desperate to me. I just pray Hansen doesn’t take the bait and end up thinking that she has something to apologize for.

  10. DD says:

I stand by everything I said in that piece, and I find it ironic that anyone here would tell me to take down that piece. I would have thought you all would agree with it.

  11. nemski says:

DD, what I said was this, “I’m wondering how long it will take Delaware Dem to delete his hyperbolic post. Classic DD.” I wasn’t advocating you deleting it. I was expecting that you to delete it.

  12. liberalgeek says:

    DD – I don’t recall this:

“In fact, when she did discuss Republican voters in the district, she told us her experiences of talking with them and how hateful their desires are.”

This is what Marino’s press release is about. I agree with Puck, the word “hateful” didn’t come out of her mouth. And when she talked about meeting Republicans, she certainly didn’t lump them all into one category.

  13. DD says:

I guess I remember it differently. I wish I had recorded it. I do remember specifically, and I will stand by this, her saying that the Republican voters she had talked to no longer wanted to take care of “Them.”

  14. liberalgeek says:

Certainly she said that some people had said that. I know she didn’t say that was the case for all Republicans in the district. There are definitely some people that have an anger toward “them” (poor people, government employees, foreigners, etc). I think she attributed that to fear, rather than hate.

  15. DD says:

Gotcha. I have updated the post at the end to say this: [Editor Note: Some of other attendees at the Fundraiser, specifically LiberalGeek and Puck, are disputing the following sentence: “she told us her experiences of talking with them and how hateful their desires are.” They say the word hate or hateful did come out of her mouth when discussing Republican voters. I wish I had a recording but I don’t. Regardless, I was not exactly quoting her word for word, and more paraphrasing her message anyway. So I will stand by the message she was saying, rather than the exact words. But keep in mind other attendees disagree.]

  16. DD says:

I have also updated the BD post with Geek’s and Puck’s specific comments disagreeing with my characterization.

  17. Ben says:

    The bell has been rung.
SS-wannabe Marino’s page is already using it as propaganda. Much more than a blog edit needs to be done to undo this.

  18. DD says:

So you want me to say Republican voters are not hateful. Nope. I will not. Neither should Stephanie. Stop acting like scared little Democrats and liberals afraid of the GOP.

  19. Ben says:

yep. exactly what I said. You’re not good at this.

  20. RE Vanella says:

I do find it interesting that DD’s blog commentary, written under a pseudonym, is taken as journalism. This is a new Republican strategy. Somebody said something!

Like DD said, it wasn’t a quote. Marino is grasping at straws. Which as Jason wrote is probably a very good sign. Every Republican in the country is slowly but surely being tainted with the stench of incompetence and chaos. Keep swinging…

Just don’t forget, Hansen has to also stand for something not simply against something

  21. Ben says:

See what you just did there? Called Marino desperate…. just like we did with You Know Who, when HE made insane accusations. Those insane accusations WORK.

We have more dems in the district…just like the country…. relying on “decent people’ to outnumber the scum will guarantee your loss to the scum.

The fact is, Hansen is losing until she is sworn in as the next senator. To approach this in any other way is to make the exact same mistake the Dems made when they allowed the country to fall to fascism.

  22. Ben says:

I say the Hansen campaign tosses the anonymous blog entry right under the buss…. Hell, if DD really cared about getting her elected, he’d fall on his sword.

  23. Jason330 says:

Ben, Clinton’s problem was that she didn’t address the bullshit and expect everyone to view Trump as crazy. Hansen needs to address Marino’s use of this and hit him hard on being crazy. This is an opportunity to define Marino and the lying, unstable, gullible tool of outsiders that he apparently is.

  24. DD says:

So a post of ours (see below) has been getting a little bit of attention from the other side. I described what what Stephanie Hansen said in her speech at a Fundraiser on Saturday as follows: “when she did discuss Republican voters in the district, she told us her experiences of talking with them and how hateful their desires are, she said aid that the Republican voter wants to stop taking care of ‘them.'”

Having reviewed a recording of Stephanie’s speech, she did not say anything about Republican voters being hateful. I was wrong to paraphrase it this way. What she said was that some Republican extremists “have a very different view of the world right now.”

“They are saying things and thinking things and justifying things that just a short time ago people would have never thought of to leave their mouths. They believe that they are justified in their exclusivity. They believe that they are justified in excluding people; in building walls. Here is one of the big things that they are saying: ‘I’m tired of taking care of all those people. We don’t need to take care of all those people. And I will never have another Democratic sign in my yard again.’ Guess who those people are? They are all of us. They are talking about minorities, the disabled, the elderly, and my union friends here, they are talking about you. Make no mistake about it, they think you have gotten a sweet deal.”

Now, I find that kind of outlook hateful, which is why I described it that way.

  26. Chuck Hughes says:

DL attacking a blogger for using hyperbole. What a year.

  27. nemski says:

Not an attack and the hyperbole you talk of was by our ex-hyperbolist.

  28. RE Vanella says:

Using the word attack is an exaggeration.
