Coons Co-Sponsors Bill to Block Trump’s Muslim Ban
From Chris Coons’ press office:
Sen. Coons: “This ban only serves to make us less safe by giving ISIS a propaganda tool, and it is a direct attack on the values that make our country a beacon for inclusiveness and tolerance around the world”
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Chris Coons (D-Del.), a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, yesterday introduced a bill, led by Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), to block President Trump’s harmful restriction on refugees and immigrants from certain Muslim-majority nations in the Middle East. Specifically, the bill would withhold any funding to enforce the executive order and declares it illegal based on the 1965 Immigration and Nationality Act, which banned discrimination against immigrants on the basis of national origin.
Original cosponsors of Murphy’s bill also include U.S. Senators Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.), Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.), Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii), Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.) and Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.). Murphy’s bill compliments two measures set to be introduced by U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.).
“Pres. Trump’s executive order is illegal, unconstitutional, and un-American,” said Coons. “The consequences are immediate and devastating: lawful U.S. residents are being turned away from their homes, innocent refugees fleeing war have nowhere to turn, and close allies that we depend on to fight terrorism are rightly outraged. This ban only serves to make us less safe by giving ISIS a propaganda tool, and it is a direct attack on the values that make our country a beacon for inclusiveness and tolerance around the world. Congress must act immediately to block the ban or we risk religious discrimination becoming enshrined in law.”
It is already illegal. Coons is going to co-sponsor a sternly written bill. Lot of good that’s going to do.
I’d rather read about Lisa Blunt Rochester introducing articles of impeachment. But Nancy “impeachment is off the table” Pelosi might pee in her Depends.
We’ll see what happens but I feel at some point impeachment is definitely on the table, and it might come from either party when the Republicans have had enough of Trump. As for Coons at least he’s trying harder to pretend to be a Dem.
Why is it that there is only a temporary hold on travel to US from a listed seven countries?
You know that there are many more predominately Muslim countries than just seven, right?
Why are people, Muslim and otherwise, not affected in those other mostly Muslim countries?
Your caption says, “Muslim ban”. If you must insist on calling it a ban and using Muslim in it, maybe it would be more accurate to call it a “partial Muslim ban”, or something.
Although that statement wouldn’t be completely accurate, it would be more accurate
@FBH: Nope. Muslim Ban it is. Muslim Ban. Muslim Ban. Muslim Ban. Muslim Ban. Muslim Ban. Muslim Ban. Muslim Ban. Muslim Ban. Muslim Ban. Muslim Ban. Muslim Ban. Muslim Ban. Muslim Ban. Muslim Ban. Muslim Ban. Muslim Ban.
Looks like something I was made to write when I acted up in grade school.
Used to actually write with three pencils in my hand at the same time to make it go quicker…until the teachers caught on.
@Fightingbluehen, the reason other countries are not included is that Trump has investments in those countries, three of them in any case, including Saudi Arabia, where the majority of the WTC highjackers came from.
See this article in the notoriously left-wing tabloid, Fortune:

Until Trump explains why only these seven Muslim-majority countries were targeted (rather than all of them), the logical reason prevails, and that is that he intends to make money off this adventure and is willing to bend his principled racism in order to make a buck.
hah “until drumpf explains”….. good luck with that.
What about the other forty countries? Does Trump have business in all of them?
If it’s a Muslim ban, then why is Indonesia, the country with the most Muslims, not on the list ?
