    With Bannon off the scene, Trump’s “America First” nonsense has lost the only person who could justify it intellectually, however wanting the explanation was.

    Every country’s foreign policy is actually “[My Country Here] First.” Because everyone else is playing a game to actually win, instead of just appearing to win, they don’t say so out loud. The West’s retreat opens the door for China’s engagement, but now matter how soft a glove feels, the hand inside can still form a fist. All colonialists, no matter how benign, become resented soon enough.
