Why does John Atkins still have all of his guns?

Filed in National by on July 28, 2018

John Atkins is out on a measly $18,000 cash bail. After being re-arrested for stalking the woman he is charged with assaulting in July, John Atkins, tried to contact the woman again on Tuesday.

During all of this malevolence, Atkins has not been required to surrender any of the many guns he frequently brags about owning on social media.

The new law requires a family member or a law enforcement officer to go to JP court to get an order that there is probable cause to believe he may harm himself or others. IMO if it can’t be made to apply here, it’s worthless.
There is a PR shot with Rep. Schwartzkopf (who co-sponsored the bill) looking over the Governors shoulder as he signs.

  2. Alby says:

Think any law enforcement officers will step forward here?

  3. Didn’t Sussex County get an exemption from that law? The ‘Married Cousins’ exception, I think it was called. Or was it the ‘extra chromosome’ exception? Can’t keep ’em straight.

  4. Alby says:

According to the Delaware State News, the latest arrest followed yet another attempt by Atkins to contact the woman, accompanied by yet another set of excuses for his behavior that have the common theme of placing blame elsewhere.

The guy is a sociopath — a really dumb sociopath, but a sociopath nonetheless.

  5. Elaine Smith says:

@ElSom, is it fair to compare Down syndrome individuals with individuals who are born with the normal number of chromosomes? Ignorance and stupidity is not “extra chromosome syndrome.”
@Al, several weeks ago you posted a map of Slovenia area which I didn’t make time to look at. I do appreciate your time and effort in trying to improve my sense of geography. I’m the first to admit it sucks. Thanks.
I actually read this blog to become better informed. Thank you all for the links to other worthwhile reads.
I’ve seen McGuiness and Scott Walker sign/s around/on Veale Rd in N. Wilm.

  6. Alby says:

@Elaine: Thank you for the kind words. I don’t remember posting the map, though I do remember the story about how people are always confusing Slovenia with Slovakia. The answer, for both countries, is to improve their soccer teams so they make it to the World Cup.

My own sense of geography isn’t what it used to be. The absolute expert on that is my former colleague Allan Loudell.

  7. Arthur says:

You and y’all attacks on Jonny ain’t right. Of course he’s got his guns. Them illegals are going to burn our houses and take our wives and kids. He’s just doing what a good ole patriot should do

  8. Yeah, Elaine, I was taking a shot at those with Downs Syndrome. I mean, seriously.

  9. Alby says:

Down syndrome is not the only example of problems with a whole or partial extra chromosome. Most other trisomy conditions are worse.

    Nancy,

You are right. I misread the original story. The Cape Gazette is more plain spoken:

“Court records show Atkins was incarcerated in default of $18,000 cash bail. Atkins faces a preliminary hearing Thursday, Aug. 2.”

SO….. he has been separated from his guns.

  11. jason330 says:

You know… he was wearing a SCI jumper as a halloween costume the night he was pulled over for drunk driving.

    Irony.

  12. And this from Muller –

When this creep was in the Delaware legislature he at one time chaired the House Corrections Committee where he advocated for minimal if any health care for prisoners. (http://www.greendel.org/2006/10/30/10423/)

Will he be permitted to keep the 17 guns they found in his house?

    Laurie Rogers Handlin
They confiscated them back in 2014 (see the other article). But don’t be surprised if he hasn’t stockpiled more.

Of Dems who never should have been elected, how many would you rather had been beaten by their Republican opponent?

    Pete Schwarzkopf for starters.

  19. In hindsight, Chip Flowers. Because then Colin Bonini would have been out of the Senate and a D might have replaced him.

  20. SussexWatcher says:

XDem, Robert Lee, the current Sussex sheriff, performed a huge public service by primarying and defeating that boil on my county’s ass known as Jeff Christopher. He seems competent and stays quiet. That’s about the best we can hope for after Jeff’s shitstorm tenure.

  21. Cynical in Sussex says:

    SW:

Sussex County is a corrupt semi-rural colonial backwater chock full of grifters, con men and closet Kluxers in and out of office. It’s the place that American Revolution and civil rights movement forgot.

The 41st is the most retarded RD in Delaware and John Adkins is a throwback serial abuser who should be locked up. Bob Lee is just another one of the GOBs who goes along to get along and acts more like a county employee than an elected constitutional official. 3/5 of the Sussex County Council is corrupt and inept along with the County Administrator and their cronies.

The corrupt Sussex pols hated JC’s guts because they couldn’t stand the thought of their ox being gored until Pistol Pete Schwartzkopf and hangman Judge T. Henley Graves, egged on by scumbag Vance Phillips, pulled the plug.

  26. Lash Larue says:

“Measly bail”. Welcome to Delaware, where all bails are “measly”. That being said Adkin’s bail isn’t any different than anyone else in the same circumstance. And any “Bail conditions” attached to a cash or secured bail aren’t worth the paper they’re printed on. Oh, bail reform’s going to be great when it happens. *eyeroll*. Adkin’s just another dirtbag that inhabits Delaware.
