What kind of Democrat are you?

Filed in National by on August 1, 2018

It is very simple.

Type 1) You think that corporations need fewer regulations and lower taxes to thrive. You feel that “a rising tide raises all boats” and that when corporations thrive the economic benefits will eventually be distributed throughout the economy.

Type 2) You think that the government should serve as a check on corporations to ensure that the economic benefits are equitably distributed throughout the society.

I recently spoke to a very earnest Democrat who was a confirmed “Type 1” Democrat. In spite of 30 years of evidence to the contrary, this person is a Clinton voter who thinks that the DJIA is the economy. He/she loathes the mysogyny and racism that the GOP is steeped in, but they’ve bought into the same economic model that Tom Carper holds so dear.

There are many “Type 1’s” out there and 1 v 2 is the fault line that runs through the Democratic Party. Whenever you hear someone talk about “electability” or “pragmatism” or “far-left extremism” it is a smokescreen.

Type 3) A progressive leftist with Marxist economic sympathies who is registered as a Democrat to vote strategically is a traditionally Democrat controlled state. Understanding that we can continue to ensure justice for oppressed people by engaging in a class struggle for everyone. (Disclosure: I am a true class traitor and proud of it.) Focusing on the material needs of all people rather than paying welfare and benefits to the interest of oligarchs and organized money. Trying to turn 1s into 2s.

  2. Jason330 says:

The 1s are investor class Dems who are were more at home in the GOP until Clinton overturned the chess board

  3. RE Vanella says:

Correct. They don’t mind LGBTQ folks or marijuana smokes, but they conveniently ignore the material needs of poor and working people. They are disgusted when the cops murder unarmed black folks in “bad” neighborhoods, but they don’t care if those folks get health care or starve.

See, not oppressing people isn’t enough. The object is to address MATERIAL NEEDS. It’s easy to believe oligarchs will do this indirectly via supply side incentives even though they never will.

  4. RE Vanella says:

This is why Clinton lost. This is why Democrats are a minority is the US Congress and US Governorships. This is why they’ve lost 1,000 seats in state legislatures.

    It’s really not complicated.

Also, just to get under everyone’s skin. Bernie would have won. 🙂

A rising tide will swamp those little overcrowded dingys that most people find themselves clinging to. You can take those massive corporate cruise ships run them aground on a desert island (hopefully inhabited by cannibals) and not miss a beat of one humane heart. Rep. Kowalko

    please primary Chris Coons.

  7. Jason330 says:

    I second that.

  8. RE Vanella says:

    In favour. Aye.

  9. Tom Kline says:

Those corporations pay salaries which in turn pay for all the freebies Kowalko likes to hand out…

Fewer salaries and more hourly by the hour.
