I’d like to nominate “Daddy, What’s a Train?” by Utah Phillips, and “A Train Not Running,” by Chris Knight, for inclusion in this week’s topic. Or maybe, depending on which way the topic is progressing, “Hellbound Train,” by Savoy Brown.
Holy coincidence. I just found a copy of Hellbound Train at the record shop Friday. I owe it now….
Not sure of the rules, but I would submit:
“Train Train” by Blackfoot
“Drums took a train” at the spectrum the dead circa 1991, I thought we were on the tracks and about to be killed!
“I know you rider” performed by your choice of artist, I wish I was a headlight on a north bound train.
The rules are: There are no rules.
Little Black Train, Woody Guthrie
Folsom Prison Blues
Can’t You See (Marshall Tucker Band)
and of course, City of New Orleans by Arlo Guthrie
Not all trains carry passengers. Sometimes they carry off whole counties…
I suggest John Prine’s Paradise (or one of the worthy covers).
In the case of non-passenger carrying trains, “Freight Train,” by Elizabeth Cotten.
