Filed in National by on August 27, 2018

This is not news to DL readers. DE gays got theirs now the “leadership” is saying “talk to the hand” to other Delawareans interested in social justice. I say fuck Peter Schott, and fuck Mitch Crane. Fucking Uncle Toms. They got thier place at the table now they can’t be bothered.

Carper is a perfect fit for Delaware

August 24, 2018

I am an unabashed progressive, an active member of Americans for Democratic Action for 45 years, 33 as a member of its national committee, a founder of National Stonewall Democrats, and currently president of Delaware Stonewall PAC, but I am also a practical political activist.

Having read numerous articles that the challenger to Sen. Tom Carper could be the next Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, I find myself having difficulty comprehending that. I grew up in the Bronx, not far from where Ms. Ocasio-Cortez’s district is. I have lived in Sussex County for 16 years, and there is absolutely no comparison. Sussex is the heart of Trump country and would never vote for a progressive (as much as I would like it to).

I look at the practical side as to why I will vote for Sen. Carper. If the Democrats gain control of the Senate, Sen. Carper’s seniority will provide a major asset to Delaware. He would likely chair the Committee on Environment and Public Works, a committee of vital importance to a coastal state like we are. He would be in a position to assure that EPA resumes its responsibility of cleaning the air and water, and we would again recognize climate change as a major hazard to our future.

Delaware should not lose a powerful committee head for someone who will have to start at the bottom of the list, and have little power. From my perspective as president of the Delaware Stonewall PAC, I point out that not only was then-Gov. Carper the first governor in Delaware to issue an executive order protecting the LGBT community, but he was one of the first in the nation.

I also point out that he came to the very first fundraiser that our organization had in 2003, when hardly anyone knew we existed. It is ironic to see the Republicans running for the Senate from Delaware saying Sen. Carper is too liberal and seeing his Democratic opponent accusing him of not being liberal. Maybe that’s what makes him a perfect fit for Delaware at this time.

    “i before c, except after e”

  2. jason330 says:

Whatever, you piece of shit sellout, uncle tom-ass, walking varicose vein.

  3. bamboozer says:

And Jason minces no words, like the “walking varicose veins” line.

  4. jason330 says:

What gets me is the claim that he is progressive. BULLSHIT!

Progressive on gay issues, and fuck everyone else.

  5. puck says:

When Dems held the Senate, Carper used his committee positions to make Democratic bills more Republican.

  6. jason330 says:

True. Any “unabashed progressive” who doesn’t get that by now has his head up his ass.

  7. RE Vanella says:

Jason is correct. Fuck you, sell outs.

You know you’re fucking garbage. So save the clever shit for someone who thinks it’s cute.

My pop was in SDS. The idea that Mitch brought that up is a fucking embarrassment to you all.

    Fuck that guy.

  8. RE Vanella says:

See you turds at Jackson Inn post match?

    Do you have the minerals?

Nah, you don’t. Stonewall was decades ago. You got yourselves a little taste of small town power. You’re soft now.

It’s sad ready how fucking lame….

  9. The lack of logic in Schott’s letter stuns. The only way that Kerri is the ‘next Ocasio-Cortez’ is in the sense that she, too, could knock off a DINO-saur who has reached his expiration date. And Harris’ story resonates in Sussex County to the extent that she would get more than the votes she needs to win statewide. Schott makes it seem as if Carper is running against Ocasio-Lopez in Sussex County. He’s not.

Also, note that Schott isn’t even making the argument that Harris wouldn’t win statewide. So why should anybody care if Sussex goes for whichever Trump acolyte wins the R primary?

He doesn’t really argue on behalf of Carper’s votes or policies, except for some thin gruel about Carper signing an LGBT order while governor. As an unabashed progressive, is he as proud as Carper is of the role that Carper played in locking up pretty much every drug offender and expanding the prison system to the point that the Bond Bill Committee had to mothball school construction and road improvements?

No, he argues that we need Carper for his seniority. Let’s be clear: We want to get rid of Tom Carper and elect Kerri Harris b/c we can no longer afford someone who consistently places the interests of his corporate benefactors (and, for that matter, beneficiaries) above those of the average Delawarean.

  10. Alby says:

Being gay does not make one progressive, or there would be no such thing as “Log Cabin Republicans.” Being black or Hispanic or any other demographic characteristic does not make one progressive. The only way to be a progressive is to act like one.

Like anyone of any demographic, a certain percentage of them are willing to sell out if the price is right.

  11. Valentine says:

Stonewall endorsed Pete Schwartzkkopf when Don Peterson, a gay man, was running. Now they endorse Carper over Kerri Evelyn Harris, a lesbian. WTF?

  12. meatball says:

“We want to get rid of Tom Carper and elect Kerri Harris b/c we can no longer afford someone who consistently places the interests of his corporate benefactors (and, for that matter, beneficiaries) above those of the average Delawarean.”

Hear, hear, fuck this dopeycon schott…might as well be a trumper.

  13. Faithful Skeptic says:

To shift from venomous vitriol to something more interesting, has anyone else gotten the mailing from a group called “Center Forward” out of Piscataway Township, NJ purportedly supporting LBR? The headline on the back reads “Thank Lisa Blunt Rochester and tell her to keep fighting to prevent seniors from getting a $1,500 increase in out-of-pocket costs.” The postcard’s headline is “Nothing is more important than protecting your health care,” so I’m guessing (tea leaves here) that what they meant to say is “Thank LBR for fighting to stop the proposed $1,500 increase in out-of-pocket costs.” Either they’re just plain English-language incompetent or a “deep cover double agent working for the GOP.” Can’t tell. Scan upon request.

  14. jason330 says:

send the scan. sounds like a lobbyist mailing

  15. Ben Dover says:

you clowns are a sad waste of time

  16. RE Vanella says:

    And yet, here you are.

  17. Deb Schultz says:

Re the mailing from Center Forward on behalf of LBR. This is like the mailing full of praises for Chris Coons done by the Partnership to Fight Chronic Disease that voters 65 and older received a couple of weeks ago.

Both these ads suggest that something awful is going to happen to ‘your’ medicare but Chris and Lisa have your backs! The ad for Coons gives you an email address and a phone number to call to tell Chris Thanks! The Center Forward ad for LBR also tells the recipient to call or email her to thank her.

It’s not clear what this wonderful thing is that both these politicians are supposed to have done for seniors. Center Forward says that LBR is fighting to keep seniors from getting a $1500 increase in out of pocket costs. Both of the ads say stuff like these pols are working to keep costs low, etc etc.

But both these people voted against the Independent Payment Advisory Board, as did Carper. Carper and Coons have both voted against the reimportation of drugs and neither of them wants to see the federal government empower the Center for Medicare and Medicaid to bargain for drug prices directly on behalf of all Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries. Why, that might actually close the dreaded donut hole — which all of them keep saying is going to happen under the ACA but no, it isn’t.

LBR has still not signed onto Medicare for All. She has said publicly when asked why not, that she is waiting for something better, like single payer. So I guess she will be voting for Harris on September 6.

These mailings on behalf of Coons and LBR are pretty sad pieces of work. They are fear-mongering and implicitly pit generation against generation. They count on people’s deep ignorance of how their healthcare actually works to manipulate the fears we all have of being unable to access or afford care when we need it. It’s really shameful behavior. But that’s the way our incumbents roll these days.

  18. jason330 says:

Thanks. I saw that Coons mailer and it just reeks of some Billion $ lobbyshop trying to not sound like a Billion $ lobbyshop.
